These are good. The case is solid and the speeds are fast. The only downside side is they are not toolless.

These are for permanent installs, so the complaints about swapping are weird, its not for that, you'll ruin the thermal pad doing that regardless of the design.

Works ok, esp if you update the firmware, many previous threads on that.

Best cooling for the price, but some drives need more, can ziptie a regular heatsink if you have one laying around. Only the lid is metal, but that's still better than some in this price range.
Not quite permanent. You can get a new thermal pad if the current one wears out.

Since we are throwing out alternatives, I use this SSK. Usb 3.2 so it's full 10Gbps, all aluminum, tool less design, comes with two thermal pads too.

Rsync will change your life. Chatgpt will help if you need it to write a backup script.

Problem is any slide on cover makes thermal contact dubious, if its sliding over easy its not really touching, and they know if they give shortened pads.

As stated by the others, free file sync, toss the guy some coffee money and get multithreading bonus for a faster backup.

Webpage/youtube has easy instructions on scheduling backup.

I mirror all my desktop ssds this way.

FreeFileSync: works on Windows/Mac/Linux. Only updates what has been changed. You could also make a zip/7z/gzip/rar/tarball archive and copy it over as one large file.

THIS Orico enclosure [amazon.com] has a cover that slides on but there's nothing dubious about the thermal contact. Simple to apply the thermal pad and attach heatsink to the SSD. Then the cover easily slides right over, as shown HERE [youtu.be] and it is actually touching. I have no issues with mine.

Another thumbs up for rsync--and it's completely free. Here's syntax that will essentially mirror from a source on your D drive to a target on your E drive. The mount syntax is for WSL so you'd need to slightly adjust that syntax according to the OS you are running.

rsync -ahPvn --delete --force '/mnt/d/SOURCE/' '/mnt/e/TARGET/'

For a native command line tool already built into Windows, there is also robocopy:

robocopy "d:\SOURCE" "e:\TARGET" /mir /copy:dt /dcopy:dt

Both will fully copy metadata including directory timestamps, etc.

That is exactly what I'm talking about, its extra absurd because that one has zero contact and relies on a heatspreader inside that doesn't touch anything.

I got that one for basically nothing, its best use is temporary transfers/closing, never closing the case. Its so cost reduced even the board is shorted, usually the others have full length copper traces for some extra disappation.

This is the real slide on equivalent. https://www.target.com/p/orico-m-...1003146883 the screws are misleading as the entire clear top half slides off smearing the useless pad as the heatsink is undersized and overheats. The contact surface is at least flat, but its not enough to matter.

I just installed my NVME drive in one of these. Windows sees the enclosure as a drive E pops up but it says "E: is not accessible. Incorrect function". Disk Management shows Removable E: drive but nothing in the partition area. Any ideas what could be causing this? Bad enclosure?

What does diskpart say?

was the drive ever part of a storage spaces array?

I think I figured out the issue. My old drive is a M.2 SATA. This enclosure only supports M.2 NVME. Looks like there's some enclosures that support both, like the $25 Sabrent.

Yea that'll do it.

On the amazon page they have the option of either the nvme or sata version of the orico for $16
