I got the 26GB version of this back in late July. It's been hooked to a server, running 24x7, via the included USB enclosure/cable. Sometime late last week, while I was away from home, it decided to flake out -- Windows was acting as if it was unplugged. When I got home, the light on the external enclosure was blinking. I unplugged the power cable for 30 seconds and plugged it back in, and it spun back up and reconnected in Windows and has been working without issue since.

Just a heads up. Not sure whether it's the USB enclosure that's the issue or the drive itself, but... if you plan to run it 24x7, you might at least need to power cycle it now and then.

USB is not a reliable enough interface for a server. You need to shuck the drive if you want reliability.

theoretically, it could have overheated after being on for a long time resulting in a shutdown. These drives are not designed for running 24x7.

I too am looking for black friday and other sales in a month or so, I see sites saying first week of OCT will have super sales.

I did buy 2 of these 26TB models for 250 dollars each like others mentioned. I am too "scared and worried" to use this drive in NAS/DAS or 24/7 use. But simple load and closet seems super safe for me. So I only have 20-30 hours log in time on them, when I unboxed it and took the time to load it up. 240 MB's speeds for me. As time goes on, and I watch you guys test them in NAS'S and DAS's in 24/7 situations, I might be safe for me to put my toes in the water and advance to using it more. But mostly I use NVMe/SSD's and microSD cards for daily lifting.

For simple file sharing and media serving (I use linux), USB is 100% fine. I haven't restarted that server in over 4 months and haven't had any issues connecting to 4 Windows 11 PCs for Networking mapping the drives, and my 3 Jellyfin clients for TV episodes and movies.
