Sounds more like braid slipping to me. The chances of you getting 3 that don't work are staggeringly low.

Not a good reel, the gears aren't built well, the materials are cheap and prone to breakage. You CAN get a good, low cost reel but this isn't one of them. Their rods are great but these are simply white labeled reels from a Chinese warehouse.

I love these reels. I bought 8 of the rh 6.5 version a while back and just picked up some of the 7.2 since they are so cheap ATM. Cast further than my Shimano reels. Zero problems with any of them. I fish most days... and for $25 there is no beating this. The star shaped drag adjustment is set low when you get it. Just give it a push forward (clockwise) and you're good to go.
