How does Garmin compete with Google Pixel and Samsung smart watches being so much more affordable?
I believe this is geared much more for exercise and outdoor activity. I love my epic pro 2 and part of the allure for me was better privacy and not getting all of my phone notifications. Garmin has implemented some frowned upon decisions such as a paid AI subscription but it remains to be seen if or when they will paywall some features that the watches came with.
Good deal but just make sure this is the watch you want. It's effectively an Epix Pro Gen 2 which is old hardware, with different software. It's less expensive than the other watches Garmin is currently selling, which is good, but the general consensus with the Garmin Watches Reddit group and fitness watch reviewers is to not buy this model.
If you're not tied to the Garmin ecosystem then the Amazfit E-Trex 3 Pro for $399 is a much better buy.
An interesting Chinese company.
DCRainMaker has extensive review on it, look decent, but seems to be copying Ux design from other companies here and there. However given how Chinese EVs are dominating the world, I would not be surprised the next couple iterations will match Garmin's accuracy at lower price.

most garmin watches will have their own gps tracking hardware, which allows you track workouts directly on it. some load music and will connect to headphones so you can go for a run/hike fully without your phone. most garmins are a fitness tracker first, smartwatch second
and as someone noted elsewhere, i don't think any mainstream smartwatch has a battery life close to a garmin. even at 36% battery right now, it's estimating 5 days of standby battery life on my forerunner 265.

The Epix Pro gen to is only $40 more. From my little bit of research I went the that instead of this on sunday because the epix has the same guts as the fenix 8.
