Can someone offer insight on what reliability is like on these models? I'm looking to replace my kitchen appliances (all 3 approaching 25y). I've got a split fridge so far (1/3 freezer, 2/3rds fridge) by Whirlpool to compare to that has functioned perfectly, the issue I'm experiencing is seal on the door is failing (magnetic? which doesn't sometimes close, and with a small child this leads to the door being left an inch open each time)

The refrigerator is likely made from Mexico.
The only issue is French Door's are prone to higher failures because of the components and design of the fridge being more complex.
It doesn't mean it will break or fail but it just means it is more likely than if you were to get a good ol'e side by side.
If you get a GE, Whirlpool, Maytag, or Frigidaire instead of Samsung/LG, that's a better bet.
If I were you, I'd stick with the side-by-side.
Another thing is you have to clean out the back of the fridge every now-and-then. The compressors today are more efficient for energy saving regulations but if you overwork it, it can cause it to overheat and fail sooner. Most people don't do it and then end up having a broken fridge. Just a simple vacuum around the compressor will work wonders and you should easily get 10-12 years.

I make it a habit of vacuuming the dust bunnies from the back of the fridge every Spring during my annual Spring cleaning around the house. Nobody I know does this...and I mean NOBODY! My Samsung French door from 2013 lasted 12 years before the compressor finally went kaput this year!
