"Phuket, let's go!" could actually be a slogan for the tourist bureau.

Edit: downvote me and just wait for my Bangkok slogan! /s

That first flight from JFK to Hong Kong is going to be a L O N G haul, 16 hours.

I've flown EWR-PEK and PDG many times ~ 15 hrs. The worst part is when you think "hey I've been on here a long time we have to be close" so you look up at the countdown clock and it's only at like 7 hours.

The ME hubs break up the segments more evenly (from the east coast anyway; guessing they dont go that way from the west coast)

One of the better airlines. On par with Singapore. Way better than United.

One of the better airlines - I may wind up on this if I can do a 2 day layover in Hong Kong.

Never flown Singapore either 😅
Driving would be better than United. I've done a lot of code shares with United, but never learned how to tell whose plane I was actually booking, but was always relieved when I found out it was ANA or Qatar or whoever...

I've flown Cathay from from JFK to Cebu, Philippines and the flight from JFK to/from HKG is usually almost full, even though there is several fights a day using an A350 or B777ER. Also it is fairly fast compared to other airlines because Cathay goes thru Russia whereas airlines from from South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan does not go thru there. My guess why the flights are so cheap is because of the connecting flights to other cities where they could not get enough capacity to Phuket in their A330 planes. I just flew to Cebu and the plane is less than 2/3 capacity.

Yes, I flew Cathay all the time and their Economy class is fairly good in the long haul flight. Meals and entertainment are pretty good. You should try their ramen noodles as snack and they usually serve egg tart on the flight from HKG to JFK.
