QLC and no DRAM.

edited: 800 TBW. Not 220 as originally posted. As another user pointed out, that was for the 1tb model.

220 TBW.
Thanks and repped. I don't understand why people refuse to give the pertinent details on NVME deals.

220 TBW.

According to the Crucial website, the TBW is 800TB for the 4TB version. The 220TBW number is for the 1TB model.

That's $8 less than Microcenter, not bad. Shame it's only for the heatsink model though. I need a couple for my mini-PC that doubles as a NAS, but it has a huge heatsink that covers the RAM and M.2 devices, meaning only the version without heatsink will fit. And of course that version is $230.

Anyone know if it is easy to remove the heatsink from these or are they bonded somehow?

I see holes in the product image. Might be screws. Beware it will likely void the warranty. I did the same to a Sammy 980 Pro 2 TB. That one has pentalobe (5 star vs torx) screw heads 🤦. Bought a bit set just for that after stripping one screw head not realizing. Annoying. YMMV. I was considering this one too...decisions.

No need for DRAM on these massive drives. You buy these as your data drive, for Windows/Programs get a 512GB/1Tb with DRAM and that's the way to go. Plus your data is on a separate drive in case your windows gets corrupt your data is safe.

Would this be useful in a future NAS with the cache option? I'm looking at upgrading my existing system and not sure how capable the drives for cache need to be. Would those need DRAM ?

I cant really see enough of a performance difference to care about DRAM. HMB is just fine for most things.

The best deal lately was the B&H Photo one for the Samsung EVO Plus 4tb (no heatsink) for $200. That is overall a better SSD than this one at any price too.
