Has anyone had any success/good results using this? I have to admit being skeptical with sharpeners where you just pull the blade through a V-shaped set of ceramic sticks or similar. I love the Worksharp field sharpener, have never had any good results with this type though. Still trying to learn angles and pressure with sharpening stones.

It's a use case scenario. If you have really shitty kitchen knives go ahead and use this. If you have anything decent get yourself a nice diamond rod and a steel. If you have extremely expensive kitchen knives (I assume you do not) use wheatstone or just have them professionally sharpen.

America's Test Kitchen/Cook's Illustrated has a manual pull-through style sharpener that they like.
Chef'sChoice Pronto Diamond Hone Manual Knife Sharpener
What they like is the depth of the slots the knives get pulled through, and the narrowness of the slots.
The model in the OP appears to have a shallow depth on the slot and fairly wide slots, so it might or might not be good.
