Such a beast of a CPU for $265. Got this CPU on launch day and it still is chugging along years later; it was $800 on launch day so lesson learned I guess.

Bought this back in March 2025 for $300 and it is indeed a beast. Upgraded from a 3600 and I am even able to play at low 4K settings.

Buying a top-end processor at the beginning of the life cycle will be worth it. Or the other lesson is to wait 5 years to buy a top-of-the-line processor for 1/3 of the price when it initially released back in 2020.

I have a 5900X, will I see a big difference if I upgrade to this and sell the 5900X?

CPU still feels too fast for what I paid for it ($290) about a year and a half ago. I paired it with 4x16GB Trident Neo Z 3600 CL16, a 6800XT and a 4TB Acer Predator NVMe.

With that CPU it's extremely hard to justify an upgrade.

It is still only a 7-12% improvement on the 5600 non x version. You can get the 5600 for $132 on Amazon. Don't think that's worth it for a lot of people.

If you're a gamer, ccd latency for 1% lows on 5950x is roooough. If you need multithreaded, 265k is a lot higher than 5950x and it's been as low as $200 recently. I get that a lot of people have am4 boards and ddr4, but those can be sold on fb marketplace and you can get a microcenter bundle if you're near one or wait for a newegg bundle.

No one is going switch from AMD to Intel.

Is your aim better multithreaded, better gaming performance? Do you live near a microcenter? 12900k bundle for better gaming performance, 265k bundle for better multithreaded. If not you have to wait for newegg/amazon deals. I think the am4 upgrade path is a trap, but that also means your mobo might have better resale value on the 2nd hand market.
Did you just recommend two dead Intel platforms... while calling AM4 a "trap"? Tell you work for Intel, without telling me you work for Intel...

No, just someone who overclocks ram and had better personal experience in 1% lows on intel than amd. Amd memory controllers and infinity fabric speed limitations are dogsh*t, and more x3d cache can't always fix them. The person was interested in 5950x, so I'm assuming they're prioritizing multithreaded over gaming, and currently arrow lake gives you both the highest and cheapest multicore, albeit with crappy latency too, since it's chiplet like amd now, and it's not a platform i'd normally recommend, since i'm a gamer.
