Such a beast of a CPU for $265. Got this CPU on launch day and it still is chugging along years later; it was $800 on launch day so lesson learned I guess.

Bought this back in March 2025 for $300 and it is indeed a beast. Upgraded from a 3600 and I am even able to play at low 4K settings.

Buying a top-end processor at the beginning of the life cycle will be worth it. Or the other lesson is to wait 5 years to buy a top-of-the-line processor for 1/3 of the price when it initially released back in 2020.

If you have an am4 motherboard and ddr4 ram already, this seems attractive at first glance, but if you can sell those even for $100 (plus whatever you can get for the cpu you already have for am4), all of a sudden, that money plus the $265 is within spitting range of 265k/kf and 12900k+mobo+ddr5 bundles at microcenter (and 14700k bundle before the price increase), with better vrms to boot. Point is, even though they went up in price at microcenter, I think there's still bound to be deals on newegg and amazon again soon, and those platforms aren't just good for multithreaded productivity, they're better for gaming too. I think there will be good sales, especially 265k/kf, because the reviews were so negative due to a decrease in gaming performance from raptor lake, but it's a productivity monster and best multithreaded value per dollar. (for reference as of right now, 265kf and 12900k bundles are $430, 265k 450 and 14700k 500 at microcenter)

I have a 5900X, will I see a big difference if I upgrade to this and sell the 5900X?

CPU still feels too fast for what I paid for it ($290) about a year and a half ago. I paired it with 4x16GB Trident Neo Z 3600 CL16, a 6800XT and a 4TB Acer Predator NVMe.

With that CPU it's extremely hard to justify an upgrade.

It is still only a 7-12% improvement on the 5600 non x version. You can get the 5600 for $132 on Amazon. Don't think that's worth it for a lot of people.
