Not sure about LEDs. But Ambilight was sold on their plasmas back in the day. I had a 50" from 2005 (50PF9630A) that I paid $3,499. It is crazy to believe what these sets initially cost relative to today's prices. Accounting for inflation, these things have dropped over 90% over time.

Anyway, Ambilight changed the backlighting based on what was displayed on the screen. Adding your own LED tape lighting behind the TV is probably just as good, gives you more flexibility on screen size/quality and may be less distracting for some.

The article I found said Ambilight uses "intelligent LED lighting" built into the back of the set to project colors onto your wall in real time, matching the colors to the action on screen.

Finally, an Ambilight TV you can actually get in the US, but of course it just had to be a couple of years after they stopped making Ambilight TVs that sync with Philips Hue (and the new Hue Pro bridge won't even sync with the older ones).

I know, Philips Hue is owned by Signify, an entirely different company from the one that makes Philips TVs, but it is still seriously frustrating...

I don't know why it feels like the company staffs are the ones commenting here. Anyway, I used to own the brand while I was living in Europe, and it was good. Not sure if the quality is the same as then. Also if the features matches other brands.

A move in the right direction. I hope they bring some Google TVs on next. But I'm planning on moving to Europe in the nearish future. So I'll be in the land of Ambilight soon enough.

At least the Syncbox I've used had finicky issue with HDCP and issue with connection with the bridge. And the first gen didn't support HDMI 2.1 for gaming. And of course it doesn't support any native content from your TV. It was a compromise solution at best...
