I really don't get the point of a blind barbie. At the risk of generalizing, I doubt many blind people care if they're wearing the latest fashions or if their outfit is cute; which is kind of the whole point of barbie: being able to dress them up in different outfits. I suppose it's better than crack whore barbie or meth head barbie, but still just seems like an odd pairing.

Educator working with disabled individuals here. The percentage of blind students who care about looking good is about the same as the percentage of sighted students who care about looking good. Check out attorney Haben Girma's awesome chat with Sugandha Gupta at the Parsons School of Fashion in December of last year for a chat about it. Haben is deafblind, with (iirc) 1% of her eyesight remaining. Good to remember that "blind" does not mean "not able to see at all". There is quite a range of sightedness under the term "blind" and it changes depending whether you are talking legal or medical definitions, and what country you're in.

I can understand that blind people also want to look good to others, but do blind kids really want to specifically play with a blind doll rather than a sighted one? Isn't it supposed to be a fantasy rather than an accurate depiction, ugly kids don't play with ugly barbies so they can feel represented, because the fantasy is being pretty and perfect like Barbie, not to handicap her so that she's like them.

I'm gonna assume, based on the fact that you are likening blindness to ugliness, that you're trolling.
That said, this doll was designed in collaboration with the American Foundation for the Blind and there are tons of academic and lay studies that make it clear that representation is absolutely crucial in play. Similarly, there is significant research (again both academic and lay) that shows that a huge portion of the population does not in fact consider Barbie to be a beauty ideal - instead the stereotypical concept of the blond/busty/etc being the ideal comes in no small part from the fact that no other options were available.
