I used to have a Comixology subscription back in the day before they got bought out by Amazon, then continued with a separate Comixology subscription (in addition to my Kindle Unlimited subscription) for a year or so before I finally cancelled it. They had a decent selection but it was always irritating that they never had the complete series of comics available in their subscription plan. They would have the first three or four comics, but then you'd have to buy the rest of the series. Essentially the Comixology subscription gives you a greater selection of comic books then just the Kindle Unlimited, but the free unlimited comics are usually just the first few books in the series. You'd still have to purchase the rest of the comics if you wanted to read the rest of the series.
Having said all that, free is still free and I think this is worth doing just to check it out. But I think most serious readers would subscribe to Marvel or DC subscriptions once you have to start paying real money. Believe it or not, the best source of free comics that I found was the local library using the Libby app. I've read almost the entire Fables series and ton of other comics through that app.

Ok, it looks like immediately cancelling the subscription still leaves benefits in place for the 3 months (like with kindle unlimited 3 month trial). Can anyone confirm?

Confirming that worked for me and it shows my subscription will end on January 3rd and I won't be billed.

I cancelled mine immediately and it says it's still in place until January and is still working currently. Same thing it does for additional Amazon channels like AMC etc where you can free trial or $1/mo special it and cancel immediately so you don't forget and it still works until the renewal date.
