It's pretty simple, for a basic model N150 or N97 (that is, a generic mini PC not for specialty purposes eg. firewall) , you should be paying:
-$130 for 256gb and 12/16GB ram
-$150 for 512gb
-$180 for 1TB
Any more than that is a rip. I got the 1TB 16GB DDR4 N150 model for $180 like 3mos ago, and the DDR difference on these is actually pretty insignificant.
If you wanna go crazy, 100-150 bucks more can get you some interesting options with 4-8 2.5gbe ports and up to an N305 (double the cores). For example you could run OPNsense as a transparent filtering bridge between modem and router using 2 interfaces w/ PCI passthru in Proxmox, then use the remaining ports for services and mgmt interfaces for the other stuff. Or you could run the whole thing as a router. I'd plan carefully on this one, though it's admittedly fun "labbing" it for a week or so exploring the different config options (eg. baremetal vs virtualization, etc).
There's 10,000 ways to skin this cat but at bare minimum you're gonna want 2 NICs or you're gonna have a really rough time.
I personally use a CWWK N305 4x2.5gbe w/BYO 48GB DDR5 stick and 1TB nvme, and it's pretty overkill for what I use it for (OPNsense, then local services that arent AI/CPU-intensive). N150 could get the job done, hell an N95 prob could assuming it had the NIC ports to support the speeds I want.

working perfect since May 2024
For OpenSense you don't need N150 CPU with active cooling unless you have 100+ users at the same time of use many encrypted VPN connections
