The steel will be stronger, but even in places where you'd get a good amount of snow the load isn't likely to be a deal breaker with either.The corrosion resistance is why you're going with aluminum. It's far more corrosion resistant than steel, so an aluminum version will basically last you as long as you want it to, unless it gets hit by something and damaged. Steel will probably hold out 10-15 years before rust gets the better part of it, less if you're anywhere near saltwater.This is a good deal, but for that reason I'm going with the sale at Costco.
Edit - not sure why I said steel would be stronger, it's not, and the snow load numbers are significantly higher for aluminum in the specs.
Very tempting but I don't want to build it. Any recommendations there?
I would have built it but found out I could just hire someone from thumbtack for $320 and they did it in an afternoon. I missed out on the joy of getting my hands dirty but finding that kind of time on a weekend isn't an option for me right now. They guy who came had built a few dozen mirador pergolas before, so it was a cinch for him (and he did it solo).

So far absolutely love it. I put it together by myself with just a couple aspects my wife had to help support it so I could connect the parts. There are some good YouTube videos showing assembly.
What I found helpful.
- You can likely assemble solo, but it's a challenge at certain points. Two people are best.
- Do NOT try to assemble it on a windy day. The wind can easily throw it off balance esp if assembling solo.
- Took me several hours to ensure I did it correctly and measured it exactly as stated.
They make and sell side panels, but maybe once I win the lottery I can buy those for full enclosure.

I'm not a bot, but have been a lurker for the past decade for sure. Used to be very active in 07-10 here (at least active for me).
This was an item I have more knowledge about then most as I was diving into it over the past few months. I do wish I had more people to tell about this though (also, there is another thread that stacks this deal with a coupon BESTPATIO which makes the price of the 10x13 eye-meltingly good. I don't need a second pergola but the price makes me think about it ahhaha)

This thing is just perfect. I open it on nice days and let the sun shine through.
It is not an easy installation, especially the concrete anchors you need to drill.
My only complaint is that the rain holes get clogged up and is almost impossible to clean and get rid of debris inside the columns.
