Forgot to add that I've purchased from AtlanticKnife.com several times, and never had or heard of anyone having a problem with them. Can't beat free shipping and good overall prices, IMHO, especially when pretty much all knife prices have been on the rise lately. Relatively fast shipping to me in the US in both California and Washington.

Same. Purchased a few "sharp objects" through them (garden tools, edc knives, etc.) and they've been reliable shippers and fast.

Likely referring to the original post by Paladin3, not the staff-posted front-page deal.

Same. I find AK is one of the handful of knife dealers where you can still find a good deal if you dig a little, sometimes it will be a forgotten model that they're looking to clear out but performs perfectly fine and other places may not have the same deal even if they still have them.

yeah, I made the mistake of looking through all 91 pages of their clearance knives, and now I'm wishing I hadn't. some good deals in there.

One strategy some people use is to post the deal hoping others will buy it up. I kind of go with a harm reduction model with cheap ones like this, the nice thing *cough* ifyou'renotaddicted *cough* is to be selective because that really means we can get a good deal at any price point with one we like.

I'm in a similar boat, with a collection of about 50 assorted knives that are all squarely in the budget category. I've had more, at times, until I started gifting some to folks who could use them. I just love a good deal on a good knife, but luckily have never felt the need to really invest in expensive premium knives. Nothing I own couldn't be replaced for well under $100. And I do use Slickdeals to help control my compulsion to buy at least one of every good deal I run across by posting these deals here for others.

My father is a retired aerospace machinist who tried to teach me how to use and care for tools as a kid. And, my step-father was a real knife and outdoors guy, and gifted me that Buck Stockman when I was 12 to get me started. I'm not much in the machine shop or woodshop, but having a well-maintain knife gives me a real pride of ownership, while reminding me of both of them and those lessons.

And, a decent knife or any tool is always a good gift for a young person if you teach them how to use and care for it responsibly.
