For anyone wondering how this deal works out if you have an existing GPU account - you end up paying about $24 a month for 10.5 months (if you have to buy the Sam's Club membership which is $25 minimum).
If you have a Sam's Club membership already, this goes down to around $22 a month. This whole price hike just blows.

the conversion is less if you have an existing subscription.

It looks like MS just reduced the conversion rates again. It used to be 3:2 (or 66.67%), then was 2:1 (or 50%) and is now just 40%. BOOOOOOOOO!

WARNING: The conversion ratio appears to be 25%, not 40%, if you have an active Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Source, I just now redeemed two 12-month cards and only got 6 months of Game Pass Ultimate.
I tried to warn you guys...

Too much hassle for an overpriced mediocre service. Signing off.
Mediocre? Dont they put just released games on that day one that wouldn't show up for years on PS+?
A lot of people are just upset with the price increase. It's a great service, and if you don't like it, don't subscribe to it. PS+ is not the same as Game Pass at all in quality, breadth of content and how soon it arrives (for GP Ultimate tier). It's also a lot cheaper so subscribe to whatever you like, or if you like none, don't. Options are great! 😁

Nope...I don't think it works. I did see that my local Microcenter has the 3 months PC passes for $29.99 but you have to pick them up in the store.

This would be the perfect time for Steam to release a console, i.e., a Steam deck without a screen for ~$300 with no subscription fees to play online and they could shut down Xbox fast. Long time Xbox owner and I'd jump on that pretty fast.
They will imo.

Mine expires in November 2025. That's month away. Think it's worth buying and holding onto or do you think the conversion rate will change by then?

If you thought Xbox was going to continue on with a console for next generation, you may want to check again. Just because they said that they plan to, doesn't mean they can't change their mind and back out.
.
Why am I saying this? Because a credible leak just came out saying that Xbox is going full on third party publisher now. Google for the information, and then research the leaker and their track record. Once you realize this is good as legit, maybe you'll think twice about giving them anymore money.

You cannot get more than 36 months of any type of subscription of game pass. The 42 months is accounting for the conversion rates. When you convert "game pass core" to "game pass ultimate" it gives you less time. So 42 months of core, converts to 16~ months of GPU (assuming your subscription has lapsed, it's significantly less if you have a current subscription).

From what i understand, your best bet is to buy 3 years of game pass core, add them all to your account. Then get a 1 month of GPU, which should allow you to convert your entire Core membership to GPU. Which will bring your 36 months of Core down to 14~ GPU. Anything beyond that is going to be much worse conversion rate. Stacking more core to fill out your 3 year total is possible tho. The benefit of doing this is, GPU is raised to $30 a month now. Stacking the remaining months gets you it for $20 a month instead.

So, net cost is about $180 for 3 years of core/essential. According to Microsoft in the US, that converts at 40% the time to Ultimate. That's about $12.5/month for 14.4 months worth.

Honestly, not sure I'm wanting to convert yet.

seems like the conversion rate is closer to 25% on an existing GPU subscription
~33% now. Best option for existing is still 3 months core at eneba at $15 for 32 days. I suspect that won't last much longer though.
It's only 25% for 12 month Core codes as 12 months gives 91 days. It is a higher rate for shorter Core Codes, but then you pay more per month on those shorter codes.
