(Duluth's underwear is also considered pretty good. As for socks, I prefer Darn Tough or Smartwool).
What I did was buy one of pretty much everything -- different styles, different fabrics, etc -- and after using them for a few weeks, I was able to easily articulate my preferences. After a lifetime of wearing budget options from Walmart and Kmart, these were pure luxury. Plus, Hanes/Fruit of the Loom have been REALLY dropping their quality over the past 20 years.
The real nice part of these is that most of the good underwear have a 1-5% Spandex (or similar fabric) content -- allowing a lot more freedom of movement.
What I ended up with were the Exofficio Give-N-Go boxer, these fellas right here. Mind you, this is entirely one's personal preference. However, this two pack is a smashingly good price and worth trying out.
Care instructions: Wash COLD WATER. Cycle should be AS GENTLE AS POSSIBLE. To dry them, HANG DRY ONLY -- they'll be dry by the next morning. Do not use a clothes dryer or aggressive wash cycles on them.
(edit: Here's a major positive I forgot to originally mention -- they dry very quick. I originally heard of them in "ultralight/minimalist" travel forums where folks praised how quick they dry after a quick handwash in a bathroom sink.)
Negatives: Older ones (around 8 years old) are starting to pill a little bit in high wear areas (such as between the legs)...but that's totally acceptable given the age. Not one has gotten a hole or a runner yet, though I'm not abusive to them.
I have boxers from them since 2017 -- looking at my order history, I purchased them in '17, '18, '19, and last ones were from late '23. They're all holding up just fine. In fact, it's the other brands elastic that are giving way (Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, etc).
I don't have a bad thing to say about them, other than the ridiculous cost.
The only gentle negative is that the oldest ones are starting to pill a little bit in high wear areas, which is totally acceptable. I'd argue I've had these for longer than most other underwear before they started to show signs of wear.
I will admit there's a difference in fabric texture from the Give-n-Go v1 compared to the v2 -- the v2 is a bit slicker and smoother of a fabric. I personally have no strong preference for or against either fabric. But I've seen no less durability since they're they're all worn in rotation. The elastic is holding up perfectly fine.
I've had "athletic" boxer-briefs from Underarmour show more wear and tear (seams on them ripping).
