This is the usual price. I noticed it was increased to $299 briefly so this shows as a discount, but it's really not a deal. Hold out until it's closer to $200

Good drive but no Dram. For $30 more you can get the SN850X.. just food for thought

For an all SSD NAS would you go with 4tb Samsung 990 pros(I have one NIB) or this if you needed 5 4tb drives that will ideally produce minimal heat to avoid excessive fan noise? I've been trying to decide whether or not to take the leap and get four of these or wait until the 990 pros are back on sale and grab four more. Thanks.

the 990s arent even in this price range, but I think you'll benefit from dram in a NAS? Some peopel swear by dram and some dont. my understanding is that its a plus when you're going to be writing a lot of data.
990s are the cream of the crop though.

Buy once, cry once. Just go for the 990 Pros and not think about it.

If you have the budget and want MAXXX performance, go for the 990 pro or sn850x. For heat efficiency (and power), consider the newer sn7100. Regularly on sale for $209 and potentially cheaper.
"Serve the home" did an excellent deep review showing its quality and efficiency. It's TLC memory, unlike this QLC. (TLC =Better) It's lacking Dram, but its SLC cache was amazing. Great TBW warranty.
