Yes. Tello is on T-Mobile. I see cheapest plan is $5.
Great find! Is it a physical or eSIM?

Quote from slinson :
As TotalWireless is actually under Verizon network.....Not sure if this model is Verizon variant only or a generic model (same as all other carrier variants). I'm thinking if the phone, by the time unlocked, would have all necessary 5G bands in case used in ATT or TMO network.
I am concerned it ends in a "V", although it would be great to have someone actually confirm it.

As you're aware, ending in a "V" makes it unusable on the AT&T network. It still "might" work but there are already A36 models (not ending in a "V") that are whitelisted on the AT&T network as per AT&T and has better chances of working.

So if Total Wireless always sells models ending in a "V" and they have that invasive ID Check step, there must be a lot of Verizon and T-Mo users on slickdeals to make these Total Wireless deals so popular

Yeah its XT2517V model which usually not whitelisted for AT&T till year later. Power 2024 XT2415V model was whitelisted for AT&T earlier this year along with the Razr 2024 XT2453V model

Oh wow! I never knew AT&T whitelists V models at all!

I also don't see any V models here - are you saying there's another list or this list is incomplete?

I just check IMEI on AT&T website and Cricket says compatible on 2024 models. Samsung A35 V IMEI says compatible A36 V will work at some point.

Understood. You don't refer to that PDF I attached, rather you do a direct IMEI on AT&T and Cricket website and see whether they accept it.

Since I can't get the IMEI without the device in hand, I have less tolerance of risk than you

Isn't TW cheaper than ATT/Cricket anyways? Unless you want the better service

unless you have a need for total service, these deals are now garbage. number port, id verification, 2 months paid to get a device at a discount price. And meanwhile, verizon is lobbying to push the unlock duration to 6 months. You never know when the policy can change whole you hold these devices and start the 60 day timer. It's not worth the hassle anymore, they have been lucrative in the past with activate and forget.

Pretty sure they're already legally allowed to have up to a one-year unlock duration if they want.

looks like a lot of other phones have also been promoted to be 'free with any plan':

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G
Moto G Power 2025
Moto G 2025 64GB
Moto G 2025 128GB
Moto G Power 2024

While a few other notable offers have gone now:
- iPhone 16e now needs 3 months of paid service purchased upfront instead of previous 2 months on unlimited plans
- iPhone 13 is now $49.99 instead of being free with 3 months of paid service on unlimited plans purchased as bundle
$199 14 Plus also gone

Nope, they signed an agreement with the FCC back in like 2017 that all phones sold would be "unlocked 60 days after activation", due to the FCC giving them a block of 700mhz, but since March/April of this year, and thanks to the current FCC not giving a crap about anybody, they've already moved to requiring 60 days of active service before unlocking, and are pushing hard to get the entire agreement undone so they can keep phones locked forever!

May want to let Metro by T-mobile know, since their unlock policy is 365 days after activation.
https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

Quote from Metro by T-mobile T&Cs :
Unlock eligibility requirements

We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:
  • The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
  • The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
  • Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date.
EDIT:
Also, from FCC site:

Quote from FCC Website, Phone Unlocking :
Prepaid Unlocking Policy. Carriers, upon request, will unlock mobile wireless devices no later than one year after initial activation, consistent with reasonable time, payment, or usage requirements.

Ummm, you missed the entire point. They (aka Verizon), signed an agreement with the FCC that required the 60 days from activation unlock requirement. The other carriers are still allowed to do whatever they want, but, Verizon is pushing hard to be able to keeps phones locked forever now, which the other two carriers will inevitably follow along with ASAP.

Also not sure how the cut off date counts when it comes to unlock policy of 2 month active service. i.e.if it unlocks by day 61 only, then does that mean we are charged for 3 months, essentially?
The phone doesn't need to have active service to unlock. Just cancel the auto-renew before the end of the 2nd month of prepaid service and the phone will unlock remotely.
