If you don't need to unlock then it is $40 for first month service. Total now requires two months of active service to unlock. This phone does not require higher plans. Minimum plan is now $40/month (used to be $30/month).

You can chat with customer service to get second month for $10 for unlimited talk & text with no data to satisfy the unlock requirements (YMMV)

Both 2024 and 2025 Stylus have this promotion.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 3
6.7" pOLED Super HD (2712 x 1220)
128GB storage expand up to 1TB with microSD card (purchase separately)
8GB RAM with 24GB RAM Boost

Offer ends 01/07/2026 or while supplies last. Device taxes and fees may apply. Requires new activation, external port in, and ID Verification on any plan. Available exclusively online. Limit to 2 devices per account.

https://www.totalwireless.com/sma...25-prepaid

***YMMV***
You can bypass port by activating the phone while order is processing when the IMEI of the phone is shown in your account.

Yet to receive tracking info for the phone ordered 10/13 but could see IMEI in the account and got a new number.

The phone doesn't need to have active service to unlock. Just cancel the auto-renew before the end of the 2nd month of prepaid service and the phone will unlock remotely.
Thanks!!

Ummm, you missed the entire point. They (aka Verizon), signed an agreement with the FCC that required the 60 days from activation unlock requirement
This is correct. I fondly recall buying heavily subsidized Verizon phones from BestBuy and after 60 days it would unlock for me to use on Sprint and AT&T. A bit of ADB would be needed for T-Mobile (I forget why specifically for T-Mobile)

Verizon then started to work with the handset manufacturers to nerf the Verizon phones with a "V" SKU so the hardware itself would be neutered and practically useless outside Verizon bands.

Now I believe struggling Motorola still doesn't nerf their Verizon phones but a few years ago AT&T introduced their own "whitelist" where they don't list any of the Verizon "V" SKU phones, so it's all a guessing game.

My source of cheap phones over the last 3 years have been MetroPCS.

There was a push to have all the providers unlock in 60 days but very few people voted for it because the cell phone providers scared everyone

The other carriers are still allowed to do whatever they want, but, Verizon is pushing hard to be able to keeps phones locked forever now, which the other two carriers will inevitably follow along with ASAP.
This is unfortunately looking to be true as well

Isn't TW cheaper than ATT/Cricket anyways? Unless you want the better service
Depends. If you're in a group plan with AT&T you can get Business Elite for $35/mo. Business Elite is literally what you think it means. It has the highest QCI level, literally unlimited 5G, 40GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data, 4K video streaming, and free international data in Canada and Mexico. All on the AT&T network.

so $90 for an unlocked mid-range Motorola phone. (and a couple months of service if that is valuable to you)
Not a bad deal but not a great deal either.
What are the better ones?

Where is $90 coming from? Two months of cheapest service unlocks the phone and it's $30/month.

As TotalWireless is actually under Verizon network.....Not sure if this model is Verizon variant only or a generic model (same as all other carrier variants). I'm thinking if the phone, by the time unlocked, would have all necessary 5G bands in case used in ATT or TMO network.
(based on pretty extensive experience with Tracfone-group phones....) This will be a Verizon variant, not whitelisted for use on AT&T. Good chance the phone hardware has all the AT&T bands, but is intentionally crippled (by Verizon) by being excluded from the AT&T whitelist system. It will be fine on T-Mobilie.

Google.

Not as as in "I'm urging you to Google the answer to your question, rather than personally answering your question", no. It's the actual answer.

Google gives out free numbers. It's at the following site:

https://voice.google.com/signup
thought you need a valid phone number before google gives you an account or a number?
Yes, you do. A US cellular number not previously used to claim a google voice number.

Ok, the original post wasn't clear that they were referring to Verizon specifically rather than mobile network providers in general, and it didn't occur to me that one provider would be singled out to follow a different policy. I stand corrected.

first month is $60. You have to pay it when you order the phone

edit: my bad, looks like you can pick the $30 plan for the first month. You used to have to pick the $60 plan then call to change it for the 2nd month.

Wow thanks for that insight man, really appreciate it.Based on your experience with Tracfone, do you know if an iPhone unlocked from Tracfone is any HW different and/or be excluded from ATT whitelist system once unlocked? I'm asking because I'm not sure if iPhones do carrier based variants just like Android phones do
