I opened mine up and checked the hardware. It ships with a single 12 GB DDR5-4800 stick and one open RAM slot. The board supports up to 64 GB total (2×32 GB). The main SSD is a Micron 2500 Gen 4×4 in the M.2 2280 slot. There's a second open M.2 slot next to the Wi-Fi card, and it actually has mounting posts for both 2242 and 2280 drives, so it supports either size. You can add another full-length 2280 NVMe drive there.

You probably could, but DDR5 4800 is kinda slow; if it were me, I'd replace it with 32GB DDR5 6000.

Other than poor battery life due to lack of iGPU, would this be decent for light UE5 development?

You can. DDR5 appears to be the first standard to support 12GB DIMMS / SODIMMs, and you can find identical speed 12GB SODIMMs on Amazon and eBay.

Apart from this, that 12GB RAM is a serious handicap and it's silly for a laptop to ship with a dGPU and under 16GB RAM in 2025. Upgrade to at least 16GB, or you'll run into serious memory issues with most modern games. 24GB RAM should be acceptable with this laptop, but if it were me, I'd recommend replacing at 12GB 4800 SODIMM with 2x16GB DDR5 5600. 5600 appears to be the max speed this series can support.

After that, your real limitation will be that 4 core CPU. Most modern games are now being designed to take advantage of 6 or more cores. It likely will not hold back that RTX 4050 however, so this laptop makes for a decent low-end gaming laptop once the RAM is upgraded. The 6GB VRAM is yet another limitation, so don't expect this to run Ultra-level textures at 1080p with any AAA game from the past 3 years.

Just bought at this price yesterday. Running GSPro Golf simulator software pretty well. Flyovers look smooth.

Looks like a really good deal for the price. Managed to snag an open box excellent one for my son at $520. This will be a welcome upgrade from his current bottom bin HP Pavilion i3 laptop.

FYI this CPU is so bad that the max RAM speed it supports literally is 4800. No point getting faster RAM

There are certainly reasons to upgrade RAM (if you're going to use it for RAM intensive applications like video editing, to give one specific example) but respectfully speaking you are completely wrong about running into "serious memory issues with most modern games."

Going from 12GB of RAM to 32GB or 64GB or 1 million GB of RAM will do absolutely zero to improve the performance of any game in existence. And I mean that literally, you won't even see a 1% improvement in FPS by upgrading from 12GB of RAM.

You simply don't understand the function of RAM and are misleading people about how it works.

You absolutely will see improvements moving up from 12GB to 24GB or 32GB, (much less than the move to 24GB) because 16GB is the MINIMUM requirement for many games today. Check Battlefield 6's requirements, for instance. Or Last of US Part 2. Memory constraints are one of the easiest problems to solve, particularly with memory hungry Windows 11.

I've seen non-gaming machines with 8GB RAM hitting their page files hard, leading to shorter SSD lives and random periods of slow responsiveness simply because Windows 11 really needs 16GB to function on a daily basis. Try this experiment: Start Windows 11, and see how much RAM it uses just to exist. Probably between 6 and 8GB, depending on the running software load. Is the remaining 6-4GB enough to not run into problems if you had a total of 12GB?

Then try and run any AAA game made this year. Tell me if your PC uses over 12GB RAM after 15 minutes.

You just don't know how memory hungry modern games are, or you are deliberately misleading users on this forum. Did I recommend a million GB of RAM? No, but thanks for the strawman argument. I recommended 32GB as the right number for a gaming PC in 2025. That gives more than adequate headroom to play anything you want without starving Windows and the backend processes. RAM is the easiest upgrade for laptops that will lead to performance improvements, and it's cheap.

Tell me, would you not recommend a $50 12GB SODIMM to bring this laptop to 24GB?
