Usually the rumors like that are usually true, especially when it allows Apple to make things more expensive and forces people to buy replacements more often.

Now that other companies are making similar items that work with Find My, these just don't seem like a good deal anymore. I've bought a couple different generic brands for less than half the price of these and I've been perfectly happy with them. They sync just the same, get tracked just the same, and cost a lot less. And yes, I've owned several of the real thing for a couple years as well, so I'm comparing apples and Apples.
I used the original one for tracking my luggage, does the other brand connects to any Apple device nearby to report location? I assume they work based on bluetooth pairing with owner onlyThanks

This was a few years ago, but my wife ordered an Apple branded watchband and it was fake. Just like memory sticks, no Apple products from Amazon for us.
Amazon is horrible for certain products and Apple products is one of them. I also won't buy any memory sticks from them. They really need to be careful because this will eventually lead to their downfall. The new thing I've noticed is them sending used products that are supposed to be new. The last thing I received was just a complete slap in the face, a pair of shoes, was supposed to be new, and they came in a plastic bag. I didn't even open the package and automatically requested a return and wrote USED all over the package.

Except for Flat Earth, most conspiracies "theories",
turn out to be true.

can these be used to track cars? I have a kid that I need to monitor where he takes the car at certain times.
i believe they've updated the tags to display on your phone that something nearby is tracking them

There's a greater chance of receiving fakes/counterfeits on Amazon, but more importantly, you're keeping B&M alive as these are B&M sales that are simply being matched by Amazon to steal sales from competitors. If Best Buy, Staples, Macy's, Target, and Walmart were to go under, Amazon would not have any sale prices to match, and would just never have sales, keeping prices higher in a non-competitive market. If given the option of a B&M versus Amazon given all costs are the same, I usually go with the B&M retailer. You'll see a lot of this copycat behavior of Amazon matching competitor sales this week and continuing up through Thanksgiving/Christmas time.
Great summary! Just wanted to add this, if you are not a prime member, amazon shipping takes a really long time but B&M stores are extremely fast (best buy, Walmart, target in my experience)

I've purchased hundreds of apple products overt the past 3 years from Amazon. Never had that issue. iPads, airpods, airtags are all legit as well as Amazon provides each serial number once shipped.

They both would know now with the privacy change. Seriously....luggage, keys, pets collar I guess....that's really about it. Not like you can put them on an expensive sports equipment or most things someone would steal or you would leave behind.
