It's actually only locked for 6 mo (180 days).

Compared to the Boost Mobile deal (pay 100% of phone today, get 12 mo of $25 monthly service credits), get this if:

1. You want an immediate $300 off the device cost (available on iPhone 17, Air, 17 Pro/Max)
2. You're ok being locked to Metro for 6 months paying $50/mo vs 2 days locked to Boost.
3. You really want T-Mobile Tuesdays and 100GB of Google One
4. You actually need 50GB of high-speed data vs 30GB per month on the Boost base unl plan
5. You need hotspot (can be purchased as an addon on the Boost base plan for $10/mo, actually technically better than Metro since it's not limited to 8GB out of your bucket)

If what I'm seeing is correct, the real deal should be the iPhone 14 for $99.

And also looking through the other phones, the S25 is $249 and the S25fe is $99.
Any idea how long before they'll allow to unlock?

Not long. Just 365 days

Only really worth it if you have an extra number to port in and then port your regular number to use it on the $25 plan for a year.
This is the way. I just have to wait 2 months

Why do you have to wait a year? Wouldn't it just be the month you're required to pay up front?

My inference from this post is that they meant to convey that they might have another number on a VZW network prepaid carrier that they are waiting two months (of active service) to port over as the second number. But I don't know. Just a thought.

Yes. You'll have to call customer service and make a special request before your first month of service ends, which is probably 25% probability of working.
Or the workaround is to port in a cheaply sourced # for this deal. Then after you receive the phone and activate it on line #1, you login to your account and swap devices for the line to any spare phone you have.
Then port in your real number on the $25 BYOP metro plan (Line #2) with any spare phone you have. Once you activate the $25 BYOP plan login and swap devices for the line to your new iPhone.

Meh. Save $300 off the phone price, pay $360 more than needed (as compared to Mint, US Mobile, Visibl, etc.) for the year of service. Where's the deal?

See the posts above. The deal here is porting in a secondary number and doing a device switch to move this device to an existing Metro line or a separate line on the BOYD plan ($25).

If you're not a Metro customer and/or don't have a use for the $25 plan, there's no deal to be had here (and in most cases your best play if you want the current gen device in that situation is to just buy unlocked directly from Apple).

Also worth keeping in mind that the Metro $25 plan does not include hotspot access (nor can it be added to that plan for a fee and there are no known workarounds to enable it on iPhones) which is a deal breaker for some people.

The worst thing about these carrier-locked deals is that when you travel abroad you can't get an eSIM for international data.

From experience- Don't buy iPhone expecting it to unlock after 365 days. I have had multiple iPhones with Metro and they unlock automatically after 60 days under previous policy. However, last iPhone 11 that I bought from Metro-byte was June 2024 for $75 and use for 1 month - price includes 1 month of service. This iPhone 11 is still SIM locked. This is annoying but I still can trade in the device or sell back to Apple for more than what I paid.

Are you saying boost mobile device if paid in full with a year of service comes unlocked after 2 days?
