Great little radio, perfect for listening to 2m or 70cm, or as an entry-level VHF/UHF rig once you are licensed.

Chirp compatibility (programming cable is included; Chirp is donationware) makes this easy to set up and program repeaters, etc.

The display can be rotated for different installation applications (e.g., on the dashboard under the dashboard), so that the speaker faces outwards.

The mobile antenna alone is worth about $25.

Note: I have been using this as my home base station for the last four months and have not felt the need to upgrade. People also tell me that it sounds great.

EDIT: The device is listed at $111.99, but there is 10% coupon under the price (code: "U8CB5QA9U8VH")

I wanted to get into ham and bought some cheap baofeng Amazon chinese handheld but couldn't understand the manual and how to set it up so I could actually hear channels. I probably should stay away from this and take a class / learn online first. lmao

The problem wasn't the radio , there is no one out there to listen to 99% of the time .

Did you program the local repeaters and check out the local Ham clubs? They often have "Nets" at predetermined times, and they can get pretty busy.
