I first had a v7 and when it broke stepped up to a v10. I would recommend not going back further than a v10 for most people. The increase in suction was noticeable, especially when using it as a handheld. Dysonstore on ebay is running coupons right now and has a v11 with fewer accessories for $230. I've bought from them twice and been happy. Just know that accessories are pricey on their own so it's be sure to pick a version that comes with the accessories that are important to you.

Looks like it falls under Amazon's Renewed Limited Warranty: "When you purchase a Product, we warrant the Product against defects in materials and workmanship under ordinary consumer use starting immediately after the 30-day return window ends and continuing until 11:59 PM PST on the one-year anniversary of the delivery date of the Product."

The eBay option comes with a 2-year warranty. That seems like the way to go. Any reason to choose Amazon over eBay?

If the 2 year warranty is all state, you will have to go through the process. Open a claim, send item back. Wait for results and then you get your item back. You can google reviews about it but take that with a grain of salt since usually you voice displeasure more than praise. I had an issue with a security camera and it just took a long time to luckily it was the back yard camera so it's not a major issue but do something important or frequent use, I would prefer a good warranty.

On that subject, dos anyone have experience with warranty with Amazon?

On eBay under item specifics for warranty it says: "6 month Dyson Official." I have taken that to mean that Dyson handles the first 6 months and Allstate handles the period from 6 months-2 years but I haven't had to use the warranty.

Apparently the failure rate is kinda high on some Dyson models. Extended warranty seems to be important.

Ive had multiple Dyson vacuum refurbished and never had an issue. I currently have the V11 from about a year and a half ago purchased on Ebay and its been perfect. I have an Animal Ball as well. It replace a 10 year old one I finally got rid of (also refurbished). I tried a nice Shark for a while and went back to Dyson.

I've purchased over 5 Dyson products refurb and all have lasted 5+ years. My v6 is still going strong after a replacement battery 10 years later.
