very ugly shoes and low quality. not much better than Steve Madden
Really? They look like standard dress shoes. They're also well reviewed and you can't beat this price for leather shoes.

Something about them which doesn't look appealing. Maybe it's the seem across the toes. Cole Haan are good quality shoes, but not the most comfortable. I waste through shoes quick, so I just buy Aldo shoes when they're on sale.

I have the cognac version of these and they've held up well through many summers and are very comfortable

It's called a cap toe, and is pretty common.

Here's the google answer: "The Cole Haan Modern Essentials line features timeless-looking dress shoes and oxfords, like cap-toe and plain-toe styles, that incorporate innovative comfort technology, such as Grand OS cushioning, EVA midsoles, and durable rubber outsoles, to blend traditional craftsmanship with modern-day comfort for all-day wear. These shoes are designed to offer a professional and sophisticated aesthetic while prioritizing a comfortable, almost sneaker-like feel. "
Put succinctly, I think it means the shoes have thick rubber boot soles that makes them look casual, as opposed to traditional leather soles for more formal shoes.

Real business-appropriate dress oxfords have stitched leather soles.
The Modern Essentials line has bonded rubber soles with fake stitching molded into them.

These Cole Haan shoes have real leather uppers which you can polish and shine, so they're a big step above fake leather "dress shoes" from big box retailers, which no one should ever buy because they look bad the moment you walk ten steps and put a break in the toe. But they're still not real business wear. They're on the level of those sub-$200 Jos A Bank or Nautica suit specials, or a cheapie from Mens Wearhouse. If your suit is better made than that, you want better shoes with it.

To be fair, real business-appropriate dress oxfords will cost $200 and up, so this is still a good deal.

FWIW these are usually at TJ Maxx or Marshall's for around $40
