Also high end phones have large, superb quality screens which is how many casual users will actually judge 'image quality'. This gives phones a leg up on user impression.
Not many people printing 24"×36" prints. Even excellent phones look like crap that big but so do many dedicated cameras. Anyone actually making larger than 8x10" prints will want some good camera gear along with a quality phone.
The gear that really makes very large prints that look pro is typically fairly physically big and the lenses are big in order to cover the large sensors and have low distortion. Plus again a big amount of post is usually required that the phone is doing with very advanced software before you even see any image.
The best camera is the one you have with you and these days carrying a phone is already happening. Lugging another fairly large object around is really a hobby or profession.

The z5ii and z50ii deals are better but sold out. The z30 has amazing build quality but is not a small camera, I still like the $700 Z5 deal more for one who has nikon lenses. The actual deal available for a serious user at the time of posting is the Z6iii at $1750, beating ebay sales by $200 and has warranty.
Where are you seeing the z6iii?
looking for a basic camera to take on vacations. I usually go on 2 a year so wont be using much. Not into getting into the settings or changing anything. Will this be significantly better than using my iphone camera? $400 for a mirrorless camera sounds like a good deal
"Not into getting into the settings or changing anything"
^hate to break it to you, but any camera is a "tool" that you have to learn how to use. simply putting it on any automatic modes doesn't mean that it's going to be the right mode for whatever setting you're taking photographs or videos.
Cameras on phones are just so darn good that I don't use anything else now. It's too convenient and more than good enough.
Once in a while I used to take my old DSLR and Minolta beer can lens into work for a week or two to let people get portraits for their Linked In. I'd take them for fun and they'd always appreciate it. I laugh because 7 years later around 80% of these people still have the portraits I took of them as their profile image. I got to dust off my useless old hobby gear, and everyone enjoyed dressing their best and getting some glamour shots. That little bit of distortion you eliminate taking the photo from that distance makes the images just look a little more professional than what you could get with a phone camera.

For your use case, I think you are better off getting an iphone 17 pro or a high end android. Z30 is not a full frame, and it sounds you won't invest much on s-line lenses. With this setup , 95% the time you get better image out of iphone. For you context: I own z6ii and couple $1k+ lenses,

What a shame. If needed it cheap, You can beat an iphone 17 pro with an F2Z adapter, 35mm dx, 18-140 dx. That is $400 more and some entry level skill.
