This Metro Razr 2024 deal is mainly about a cheap foldable with a one year Metro lock and eSIM activation. The strongest upside is the price, with multiple orders going through around $65 or even $35 for a second line, and the phone can be used on Wi Fi or as a secondary device while waiting. Community testing also points to a possible unlock path on some Android 14 units, especially older November 2024 builds. The main catches are frequent stock and checkout failures, plus many reports that newer Android 15 or March 2025 units stay locked or hit server errors. A good fit if you are comfortable with the wait and the activation hassle.

The reason why the proxy unlock worked is you received a RAZR with Android 14. The proxy unlock app method works with any RAZR with Android 14 and security update prior to March 1st. Note the January 2025 manufacture date on the label. The majority of the inventory being sent by Metro is newer and shipped with Android 15. Once the phone has been on Android 15 at all manually downgrading to Android 14 does not work with the proxy unlock method either.
Mine was made on 03/26/25, Is it considered an old version or a new version?
It's still Android 14, but it keeps prompting me to upgrade to 15.
Thanks!

What is your Android security update month? I would try to unlock it with the tool asap because if connected to the internet, it will try to auto-install system updates. Also, turn off smartupdates (it will push the update or nag you with notifications) and automatic system updates in dev options.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks a lot. I was able to permanent unlock my 2nd razr (A14, security update 6/1/2024, phone box dated also in 2024). Something to share, at beginning it didn't work by following the above steps. Then I noticed the airplane mode is shown up on the shared screenshots. So I turned on the airplane mode thru the process and it worked. Fortunately my 2nd razr came yesterday with A14 and the old security update. But my 1st razr came earlier with A14, security update 3/1/2025 and phone box dated in 2025, I was unable to unlock.
In addition, I noticed some difference between these two phone. When the 1st razr connected to the computer, if I select file transfer, the Moto unlock tool can't recognize the phone. I had to select no data transfer. When the 2nd razr connected to the computer, I can select file transfer and the Moto unlock tool can recognize the phone.
I do have a question to shortyman24, because we haven't activated the Metro-esim to unlock the phone, now since it's permanently unlock, can I activate the Metro-esim and install it on the phone? Would it impact the unlock? Thanks again, shortyman24!
What is the link to download the tool? I can't find it on google. Thanks

Does the same logic apply to smartwatches as well? Meaning, can I pay for just one month and then stop paying afterward, while still being able to use it like a regular GPS watch

The bootloader can be unlocked on this device. Have you tried rolling back to A14 on an unlocked bootloader?

Have you tried unlocking the bootloader on this model? Moto website actually provided you the string (even though it is carrier locked)?

Yes, I have. Took a week to enable OEM Unlocking (almost exactly 168 hours from enabling dev options and connecting to the Internet). Metro devices typically let you unlock the bootloader (you have to request it on the Moto website).

Not yet. I haven't been able to find an old enough A14 firmware. The one on lolinet is from April 2025 (won't work according to the post that mentions this approach). I see some links to a January 2025 A14 firmware, but it's some paid site. If you can find a downloadable A14 link, please post it here.

You are referring to this one right?

My understanding is that any A14 firmware should work

Correct. I might just try this later today. I'm yet to meet a device I haven't been able to unbrick!
