This Metro Razr 2024 deal is mainly about a cheap foldable with a one year Metro lock and eSIM activation. The strongest upside is the price, with multiple orders going through around $65 or even $35 for a second line, and the phone can be used on Wi Fi or as a secondary device while waiting. Community testing also points to a possible unlock path on some Android 14 units, especially older November 2024 builds. The main catches are frequent stock and checkout failures, plus many reports that newer Android 15 or March 2025 units stay locked or hit server errors. A good fit if you are comfortable with the wait and the activation hassle.

I can verify the moto tool worked for me. My phone came today. The manufacture date on box is Jan 14 2025. It had a November Security update. It took me a couple times but it did unlock. I did have to turn on the phones wifi at the end to get it to unlock. I put my cricket sim in and working perfect. I think anything with November update might be the only ones that will work with this tool. I am very lucky. I would buy another if I new the manufacture date but it's a crap shoot if you order.
Nice, I think my box was Jan 16 2025. But wasn't sure what build I had because after unlock it prompt for me to restart and it applied the security update to Jan 2025.
I attached a photo of the build number.

I just received my phone today and on the outside sticker the date is "05/20/2025". Does that mean no chance of unlocking it then?

Unforunately no chance of unlocking, my 2nd phone box was 5/13/2025 with A15 March 2025 security update. I'm waiting on a 3rd phone.

The only thing that works on that version is RElocking the phone - changing the lock from 'Metro by T-Mobile' to 'Every carrier, but the phone still says it is locked in Settings' - and that is a pain to do, requires Chimera Tool version 44.44.2201 or newer & no one seems to be offering it as a service, because the process takes a bit of time.

You have to:

Turn the phone on, wait a few days for Motorola to give the okay to enable OEM Unlocking (7 days after you first powered the phone on)

Bootloader unlock it

Root it

Run Chimera to relock the phone to all carriers

Flash the phone back to stock, relock the bootloader.

The 'U.S.A - Metro / T-Mobile Android Official Unlock (Samsung Not Supported, No Refund if Submitted) via PROXY' sold on GSMUnlockUSA should work on that version. I would check with the support person before ordering, as I have never ran it on that exact Android 14 version. That said, it should work fine. Follow the video guide on the ordering page to see how you set it up - it's very easy.

Sadly, the phones that I received today came on A15/March Update, so I will have to use other tools to deal with them.
Went through the suggested site. I'm getting the same server error 200. Interesting.

Have you reset the phone prior to doing it? I have used that service on other Motorola Metro devices (2023 Moto G) with no issue. Reach out to the site's admins for either support or a refund - they can help with either.

I didn't reset since doing so would install the Jan 2025 security update. I reached out to the admin to see if they can offer any guidance. It's interesting to me as a layman that I am getting the same error. I guess the unlock tool and proxy work similarly.

Can not be used with any other service besides Metro, we have to wait 365 days for it to unlock as per Metro policy.

You only need 1 month of service then cancel or don't pay for 2nd month, etc. and wait for it to unlock at end of 365 days.

Specifically: pay the one month for the phone, do not pay the other months *BUT* do not port your number out - that will stop the unlock timer.

What about moving the line to another device? Would that prevent the original device from being unlocked in a year?

I have not done that. I can't say. I always leave the line on the phone and throw the phone in a drawer (if I am not unlocking it via third party stuff)

Looks like there are only a few people who were able to unlock like a week or so ago and no body after that was able to unlock.

Did anyone activate the Metro service before or after they unlocked their device?
Or does it matter?

The 1st cell phone I have I tried to unlock without activating service a couple of days ago and didn't work and wasn't sure if it needed to activate it or not, so I activated the eSIM and still hasn't unlocked with the same Server Error 200 message.

I activated the 1st phone so I could buy a 2nd phone under the same account and get the discount.

I got the 2nd phone today and have not activated it yet with Metro service but wanted to make sure if I should wait or not.

Both are Android 14 with Android Security November 1, 2024.

Dates are January & February 2025 on the outside of the phone boxes.
