A couple years back I had to pick up a bunch of tools for a job, pneumatic impact gun, sockets, etc etc. It was couple hundred in tools, many of which had ITC promo pricing, so I bit for a year. I think the savings was around $80, well worth the ITC membership, and even though I was only charged for one year they ended up giving me two. I did not renew after that. While I stop in often enough, I'm not sure that the savings on things i need would make it worth the $30 over a year, and I'm not interested in feeling the pressure to buy more things I may not necessarily need just to make the membership worth while. I'll likely only renew if I run into another particular purchase need where the ITC savings would pay for the membership.

I find their ITC membership price to be a bit odd. $30 is a bit high to be an impulse buy. I would think if they priced it at, say $19.99 per year, they would get a marked increase in uptake, and thus more repeat business from ITC members that would more than pay for the membership price drop.
With a two year it works out to less than $2 a month.Almost everyone I know would save atleast 2 dollars a month.Yes it very well might coerce you to buy a tool that you don't really need but it is unquestionably worth it.

How many times a year do they run this coupon? Wondering if the $30 annual fee is worth it or not, considering you'll save about $7.50 if you purchase something for $25 exactly?

(and yes, if you could use it up to x5 times in a day, that's $37.50 - which pays for it, but ONLY IF (A) you're allowed to use it multiple times in that particular store, (B) you're buying things at/close to $25, and (C) you actually need something around the time the coupons come out.
Generally speaking, any store that makes you pay for the privilege of shopping there (or for access to the best pricing) is almost always taking you for a ride. They've had MBAs crunch the numbers, and statistically speaking, they are the "house" -- they will always win. If more people took advantage and shifted that balance...then you'll see fewer deals and higher subscription costs.

Think of it like this: They were going to sell these items at this sale price anyways. They've run the numbers, and even on sale, they're making more than enough profit -- they're not losing anything. But they found a way to trick people to PAY them for access to the sale. If most people snubbed these subscriptions, then the same sales would be available to everyone. Remember back when there were ALWAYS "free items without purchase" and "any item 20% off" coupons?

-------

You need to "save" $30 on things that absolutely do not go on sale otherwise (or else, you could just buy them as a normie on regular "sales") -- just to break even. And that's every year. Factor in fuel and time too. And sometimes being sold out of highly desired items (good luck finding those slip-joint needle nose pliers!).

And every shopping subscription you open your wallet for only encourages this behavior from other stores. It's not enough to just get your business -- they should be happy you're actually buying something there (in this economy especially!).

If they keep this up, my house will have more stock than an actual Harbor Freight Store!
I have been shopping at HF since the early 80's. I got to have thousands of dollars of their merchandise. I knew I lost my mind when I recently bought their baseball cap...I got 8 caps already.
