Quick release. More modern bikes are now thru axle but honest QR is fine. It worked for decades and still does.

Reading the specs shows it also has a QR hub in the rear like the Stance 1
I'm middle aged and just got back into biking - just daily cruises on paved trail, currently using a 15 year old Granny Cruiser Cannondale bike that has like 8 gears via one handlebars.I don't need a pro bike. I doubt I'll ever go offroading or anything. I don't one to get one of those junky Walmart deals, but I'm not sure I need a $1k bike either. What do you think?

Skip. Consider a road bike - way better pedaling efficiency.

You don't want a full suspension bike for puttering around town. Check out this one and similar bikes from other brands like Trek and Specialized.

Haha..it's not. The switch from QR to thru is easy and cheap. So many post that have apparently never wrenched, even a little, their bikes.
Not sure what are you talking about. How do you put M12 axle into small 9mm not threaded hole? You can't change from QR to TR, bike frame doesn't support it. You can add QR adapters to TAwheel to use those on QR frame but it is pointless unless you've got some free TA wheels.

Ozark Trail FS.2 or FS.3 full suspension are better bikes than this

Yeah, unless I'm missing something, jimx200 is mistaken. You can't convert a frame from QR to TA for the rear wheel unless the frame has replaceable rear dropouts. This frame does not.
On the other hand, while I prefer TA to QR, QR is still quite serviceable for most riders. This seems like a pretty good deal to me.

for less than a thousand bucks this is a great entry level FS bike. can't believe all the complaints over a QR in the rear lol. what are the expectations here? I have one from 2020 and ride a ton of NorCal parks in it with new Continental tires. this thing is awesome for a beginner to intermediate rider getting into mtb. everything is upgradable except for the rear shock which is the real limiting factor.
