Curious as to people's thoughts about whether this would be much of an "upgrade" from the Amazon Fire Max 11. We got that really cheap with a trade in a while ago. Now, we just use it for kids when in the car.

Fire Max has been fine, but would like something fairly cheap with stylus support as children are learning to write. (All reviews of the Fire Max stylus suggest that it is awful.)

Thanks in advance.

Anyone know what the Widevine/DRM situation is with this tablet? What resolution will it play Netflix content at?

Ordered one. Looks like lots of people are doing the same, as shipping dates are now out 2+ weeks for Prime. I'll take a shot at this, only need it for budget purposes.

This price cannot be beat direct from Amazon with case. Decent chipset, great screen for the price. This should be called the Idea Tab 2025.

Note that Lenovo also has the:
Idea Tab Plus 12.1" - basically same medium range processor, has video out, around $250 on sale
Idea Tab Pro 12.7"- much faster Dimensity 8300 from 2024, flagship performance from 2024, around $280 on sale. Can be found on Aliexpress shipped for $200.

You would be wrong.I'm a computer science certified teacher. I live this stuff everyday and have already seen MORE "AI is wrong than right."It's not that AI is incapable of telling the truth, it's the motivation of the corporations behind the models that tweak the algorithms to suit their profits. Be smart about WHO benefits and profits from telling a narrative. AI is very much a Wizard of Oz scenario where the one pulling the strings is not what it seems to be. If society can't figure out this basic fact, I'm afraid we are already too late to keep the Internet free and truthful by verification.
Well, I spent years at IBM before becoming a CIO, and have been doing that for 30 years now. If you are using Chat GPT, Gemini, Copilot or Grok you are using the best AI that gets it right much more than it gets it wrong. My masters is in Instructional Technology, and I'm telling you that your kids are going to be taught by AI, so get ready for it.

I don't disagree with the fact the 695 performs better... I checked benchmarks to see this. But when you start a post with "according to AI..." I automatically dismiss your comment, friend. I had to go verify it myself. AI is untrustworthy most of the time and you should always check what garbage it spits out. No offense meant at all, just commentary on the state of searches performed by tech companies and presented as "fact." Once you get hooked on AI searches and stop verifying, they can make ANY "fact" seem true to manipulate you.

TL;DR Don't trust AI and ALWAYS verify.

Yea, but AI was right...
His comment wasn't that AI is always wrong. He said that it was untrustworthy. And I'm inclined to agree with him.

My experience has been that AI is "confidently incorrect". I don't mean that it is always incorrect, or even incorrect most of the time. But it is frequently wrong. And when it is, it presents it's answer in a way that it looks accurate at first. It often makes it really hard to notice that it is wrong. Especially in areas where the user is less informed to begin with.

Check out the most recent video from Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell [youtu.be]. Their channel makes videos that take a lot of research. They were initially enthusiastic about the idea of being able to use AI to help them speed up some of these tasks. And at first, the results looked fantastic. But as they dug into the data they got from LLMs, they found a whole lot of junk. This included citing sources that ended up being slop created by other AI.

None of this means don't use AI or it isn't helpful. It's that people shouldn't blindly trust AI. At least not at this point in time.

Trusting AI is like trusting some guy named Al (Albert) on the internet.

Sure, he might be correct. His sources might be legit. Or he could be full of hogwash and hallucinating. You simply don't know until you do the work yourself. And by that point, you've already done the work yourself.

So, they're going to be taught wildly incorrect stuff from a system that's being manipulated by the corporations (and governments) behind the models. Gotcha. Best instill that doubt and fact-checking into them now.
