The BIN on these cards last time was 451129, but that may have changed over the past couple of months. Staples processes their own gift card purchases, so paying with a card that earns well at office supply stores is the best way to get rewards off of these.
The limit is 5 in theory, but 4 in practice; the fee is present in cart as part of the subtotal before the discount kicks in, and Staples will not sell more than a $1,000 subtotal of gift cards in a single transaction. As such, throwing five $200s into your cart will show a message from Staples asking you to remove items from your cart before you can continue.

And it's even sadder THIS gets asked nearly every time this deal is posted. In a nutshell, if you find no value in doing this deal, then there is no reason for you to do it. 5UR points on my Saphire reserve IS enough of a reason for me because they are used for travel. Also, great for meeting minimum spend on new cards...
In my case I am only 2500 Tier Qualifying points from getting A-list Preferred on Southwest for next year, so this helps me in that regard as well if i can buy a couple thousand..
You may not believe I am actually not the one who thumbed down your post, but really I just wanted to ask a genuine question because I am interested in the deal and wanted to find out whether it is worthwhile doing it. Anyway,
  1. buying gift cards to meet minimum spend on new cards is risky these days;
  2. Unlike physical Visa cards, there is no way to liquidate virtual cards. You will have to buy stuff to use these cards. While you do earn 5 UR points from these cards, you forfeit the points you could have earned when using credit cards to buy stuff.
  3. You mentioned you were short of 2500 Tier Qualifying points from getting A-list Preferred on Southwest. This is the part I am completely ignorant. Could you help us all to explain how buying these cards, as opposed to regular travel and credit card spending, help you achieve the goal? Thanks.

bull. online is easy as pie. I have used these at various online stores/utitilities and have never had an issue. probably close to 100 different online stores by now.
And of course you can't use them in store, it CLEARLY SAYS SO IN THE FIRST LINE!
"Visa Virtual eGift Cards can be redeemed online only."
Bull. No one is going to believe you have used them at 100 different stores online. Even my sister who is shopaholic doesn't shop at 100 different online stores. And they are limited to 3 per order and rarely go on sale for fee free, it would take 20 years to get anywhere near 100 of these.

And the reviews right on the Staples website say the exact same thing that I said.

some people may want to use them for a subscription service (Sirius/ XM) where it auto renews and they don't want to be charged again or it's difficult to cancel.

Are we sure that online purchase with staples using CSR or Chase Ink Cash will still get us the 5 UR reward points? Any data point is appreciated
Confirmed it shows up as "Staples" which is same as when i went to the physical store. Cheers

lol, who said I only buy the fee free ones? I have been doing this for YEARS. Here's about $6000 worth I have used since June of this year. Good to know you are simply quoting reviews and haven't actually tried using these...

to address your points in order:
1. This is completely overblown, not risky at all imho.
2. There are a zillion ways to liquidate these cards, the simplest is to add them to your amazon balance, pay utility bills, cable bills, phone bills, gas bills, etc.
3. For every $5000 I spend on my Southwest card, I get 2500 TQP.

I also almost always go through a shopping portal in order to get even more rewards. Recently used the AA shopping portal for a $2000 purchase (of which i did pay the fees for the cards) but also received 2.5 airline miles per point (5000 miles) did this twice
Then I was able to buy a one way ticket to Curacao in May for 8000 points. Well worth the fees I had to pay, but ymmv. I also gained an additional 4000 Southwest miles as I used my Southwest card. Also that 4000 spend is $1000 away for 2500 TQP...
We call this stacking, or layering...

My company used to give these for bonuses until everyone complained. They are indeed a pain to use. I'm not saying I've used them "hundreds of times at thousands of stores" but as a normal person not jumping through hoops to get all the maximum rewards, just trying to use them in normal checkout is a hassle at most sites. If your cart is more than the amount on the card, I've had issues. And if it's less, it works but then I have to keep track of what the remaining balance on the card is so I can try to pay for something with that exact amount. You can't add them to PayPal or Venmo.

How do you compare a virtual visa from giftcards.com to one from staples? Every virtual visa works different.

Just a quick comment on #2: if you add them to your Amazon balance, then you do have to buy stuff; For cable, internet bills, Chase Ink offers exactly same earning rate 5X. Why buy these cards in a roundabout way to get the same earning rate? For other utility bills, one can use US Bank customized cash to get 5X, albeit not UR points.
