Got 28-75 last year at 500 including tax. Considering the tariffs right now, it is a good deal.

That's a fantastic price for the 70-180 2.8 G2.. I paid like $500 more earlier this year.

Thanks OP.. bought the 28-75 2.8 G2!

I can't find it for less than $650 used so getting it for $550 new is amazing. Lucky that I checked!
I've been monitoring this for a while. It comes up on greentoe for $550 every 3-6 months, but have never seen it go any lower over the last 18 months. finally pulled the trigger as I've been wanting a good travel lens and I just don't see ever finding a better deal even used on a 28-75 g2.

Not a good deal. New models are coming. The new 25-200mm g2 is miles better than the current model.
The 28-200 will drop below $500 very soon.
They just announced it was in development a month ago so how can you say it's MILES BETTER?......LOL!

I've had the 18-300 on my wishlist for awhile. It's such a pain to constantly switch lenses on vacation. This will be a perfect all in one.
me too. This one or the SIgma equivalent. And this is one helluva deal. Makes it seem a no-brainer.

But it makes me wonder if they are clearing stock for a g2 version of this lens?

When and where? I've been monitoring this since last february and have never seen it below $550.

Some of these are definitely being replaced by newer versions, like the 28-200 is being replaced by a new 25-200. Sony Alpha Rumors is good to follow for news on this stuff.

thanks but I need f1.8 or lower Smilie
I could be wrong but I think only prime lenses can get f1.8 currently. Most zooms max around f2.8

On greentoe during April last year, I just offered my price to be 500, and one of the retailers accepted the offer

First time buying from Greentoe, I ordered the 70-180/2.8 late Mon night/early hours Tues. My order says the offer was accepted from the retailer ("Your offer was accepted and is being processed."), but I've yet to receive any further updates like shipping status. How long does processing or shipping typically take or is it retailer dependent?

You need patient. When I ordered previously my order took about 3 weeks before shipping.
