Seems a little narrow. Only 10.5 inches across. I'd want a model with at least 12" wide so that the dutch oven can braise or deep fry as well.

I like the cast iron Amazon basics 7.0 quart since I use mine in the smoker. This Martha Stewart blue enamaled version is cheaper than the Amazon version that I bought last year at $34 during Black Friday last year. If I used ovens only I would buy the Martha version.

Got it for $25 last month and it has been alright, more deep less wide. Easy to get rusty on the rim tho compared to other brands, but some oil will take care of it.

Yeah browning is not efficient in this pot. I have been sautéing meat first in SS pans and transfer to the pot for braising. Although kinda beats the purpose of one pot braising meal, meat tastes better when stronger fond.

I have a smaller version of this brand. The bottom is too thin and I've scorched stuff a number of times. Doesn't act like a normal, thick dutchie on stovetop.

Maybe bigger version is better, but I would avoid

So your only criteria is cheaper price if using in ovens?Based on other comments, seems like this MS isn't great option.Amazon basics option would be a better choice for $1 more (assuming it hits the $34 price again).

I said I like the Amazon basics is better for me since I use my smoker. There are several reasons a person would like to have a black cast iron dutch oven; Smoke is black and would not look good on blue, the enamel would probably chip if handled rough which is why I like plain non enameled finishes in the tight confines of a smoker, I like the large handles on the Amazon basics so much easier to hold with all the heat surrounding the uninsulated smoker.
If I used an oven with my utensil I wouldn't have all these issues.

Ok, just sounds like the Amazon basics one is better all around regardless if you are using it in an oven or on a smoker. Was trying to see why someone might choose the MS one over the AB one assuming price is the same, but seems there is no reason (unless you like the blue color, which also has downsides as you mentioned).

Using a smoker means you cake on soot on the outside of the dutch oven. On the Black cast iron version you can use one of those abrasive wheels (Harbor freight 94015) on it to clean it in a couple of minutes.

Forget it. I totally understand the smoker issue and why you want the black cast iron. I was trying to figure out why anyone would choose the MS one...but the only reason seems to be because it's cheap.
