CO stays closer to the floor, smoke rises. So you want different placement for each for quickest detection and alarm.

Plug-in model with battery back-up is also available for $18, but goes on sale for this price pretty regularly: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DLBB3LNC/

Nowadays, I don't understand why people just get one gas detector and not a combo such as CO/smoke alarm. What's the point of having 2 separate ones? 🤷

I highly doubt a $12 CO detector is UL certified.

EDIT: checked the manufacturer's product page and the manual and there is no indication of any 3rd party testing of this device anywhere.

This is Chinese junk. Don't trust your life with this thing.

I don't think this is the area where you want to be skimping on. Yes they are all made in china but you kinda want some quality control on your CO detectors. And a company that will do that because they can be sued if they kill a bunch of people.

Exactly. You be dead if CO hits the smoke alarm and there is no fire.

I respect your skepticism but dont agree with your opinion. Don't want to make this an argument either. Doesn't a safety product like this have to be in a outlet/hardwired in order to be UL certified? They have another model - XC0C-SA that looks to be certified. They also pass European standards it seems. As someone might have mentioned this is intended for trave. Wouldn't having this in countries without the same standards would be safer than not having something at all?

Not really. CO has a molar mass of 28g/mol. Air is 29g/mol. Smoke should be even heavier, right; with heat makes it rise?

Believe it or not, smoke detectors are more importantly there to detect a fire, despite their name. And most modern experts agree that both fire is hot and hot air rises.

Modern physicists are still on the hunt for the legendary cold fire, but if you happen to find one in your house, please be sure to alert both the media AND the fire department.

Combo alarms generally don't have a display to display CO levels, if that's important to you. Also, combo alarms are generally made to be mounted. This unit is made to be portable. You can easily place it next to appliances you suspect of leaking. A similar unit came in handy last year where several people in our house suddenly felt nauseated. It was simply more convenient than taking a combo alarm off the wall and moving it from room to room.
