The Moto G Power 2024 is a solid budget 5G phone, with praise for its snappy performance, decent camera, bigger battery, improved screen, RAM, and wireless charging over the 2023 model. It also has a headphone jack and FM radio, and once unlocked it can be used on other carriers with physical SIM or eSIM support. The main catch is the Tracfone service setup, since the included 1.5GB for a year is too little for heavier use and top ups cost $10 for 3GB. Unlock timing is also a point to watch, with reports pointing to about 60 days of active service.

  • The device can unlock after about two months of active service.

  • The phone can transfer an existing phone number during Tracfone activation.

  • After unlocking, the IMEI can pass AT&T BYOD and Cricket checks for use with other providers.

  • After unlocking, the phone supports both physical SIM and eSIM options for carrier flexibility.

  • Activation can fail if Walmart pickup does not scan the IMEI/SIM as sold in Tracfone's system.

  • Walmart listings may show a 2025 model even when the deal is described as 2024.

  • The included annual plan data amount can be too small for light users who need occasional trips.

  • Unlock timing can require two months of service, and paying for only one month may no longer work.

Besides scanning the phone box's barcode to ring it up, the Walmart employee also needs to scan another bar code on the box's label to register the phone's IMEI/SIM number in TF system as "sold". This is to prevent a thief from simply walking out with the phone. Check your receipt to see if the IMEI was scanned.
If I bought online and they didn't scan the IMEI, how can I check? Is there any remedy to mark the phone as "sold"?

I've never bought a TF phone online from Walmart.com, so I don't know if the receipt from the sale (after it was shipped) shows any scanning info. My thinking is that if the phone was not scanned, its IMEI is not registered in TF system as "SOLD" and can't be activated. That's the sign that something is amiss.
Take a look at this thread on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/NoContra...id_phones/ . If you encounter that problem, seems like the solution is to take the phone and your receipt to a Walmart store so a C.S. rep can scan it for you. They won't be able to resolve the problem over the phone.

I heard that when you buy Tracfone phone online at Walmart.com, their employees may forget to scan some barcode that prevents the phone be unlocked later, is it right?
happened 2x with me at WM pickup. Nothing to do with unlocking, but unless the phone has been entered into the TF system, they don't activate. Calling TF did not work for me. The 2 phones I bought did not get scanned by the people in electronics, but instead were picked from inventory and then went directly to will call for pickup. Both did not activate and upon returning to the store to try and get them to process, they would not so I had to return. They would not honor the online price for repurchase! Screwed up system and with so many of these phones being returned. The people at returns said they get them back. My local Super WM employees will not sell a prepaid phone unless the Premier Wireless rep (contracted service for sales, activations) is there to do it. Btw, BB had this same phone a few days ago at $129. unlocked and that version has more bands vs the Verizon branded model.

This happened to me holiday season 2023. Purchased online for pickup. Lots of posts about this on SD at the time.

I had to return the phone because it could not be activated. I had to take it back to the store for a credit. The store manager told me his employees know the procedure. The one who handled my purchase clearly didn't.

Note that this 2024 Power is not eligible to use on T-Mo's satellite service which is great. The 2025 Power has all the satellite features with text, pic messaging, and data so one can use WhatsApp for talk. It's an automatic switch from cellular to satellite.
A better option to this 2024 or 2025 Moto Power is the TF Samsung A25 on HSN for $90. It comes with 4.5GB data. Phone has the better AMOLED screen with much higher nits of brightness at 1,000 vs Moto at 500, headphone jack port, has micro sd storage up to 1TB. Another plus is the A25 gets 4 years of security and 5 years of OS updates including Android 16 and 17 when released. Moto is 2 years with one OS update to 15. The A25 has the better camera too, including 4k video. I had the 2024 Power and it's a good phone, but I'll take the better AMOLED bright screen (Power is bad in sun) and the better camera. Moto has IPS67 so that's a plus if in rain and 8GB vs A25 at 6GB, but the A25 performance numbers are higher due to it's Exynos 1280 processor vs MediaTek Dimensity 7020 processor on the Power. At the HSN $90 price, I may grab another as a spare as I've drowned a Pixel 3 with kayaking on white water. http://www.androidcentral.com/pho...er-5g-2024 Looks like HSN sold out of the A25 but free with plan purchase at Total as it the A36 (outstanding) too and both work on T-Mo Satellite after unlocking.

Total Wireless requires ID.

pick any cheepo plan and no second month to get unlocked. Plus more bands. Another option is buying direct from Motorola where it's listed at $149. and trade in a device for drop it down lower.

It no longer works to pay for one month and get unlocked at 60 days. You need to have two months of service.

Take pleasure in knowing they literally wasted 5 minutes of their life doing it, achieved nothing other than self-ridicule, and they were probably seething the entire time they furiously clicked away.

The Samsung A15 5G I have which they claimed was eligible/compatible doesn't work with it either, so there's that.

the phone must be unlocked, unless it's T-Mobile branded. I have the A16 and A34 on it and the A25 shows it's eligible too when unlocked since TF branded.

It's unlocked, that isn't the problem. The problem is it requires E-Sim support, which the A15 doesn't have, at least not in the US market.
