I think we slowly have to kiss memory upgrades in Laptops good bye atleast for consumer variety.
Apple started it long back with its ARM based M1 that got good performance and great battery life with in package memory(SIP) and it then by Qualcomm xElite with reasonable performance and good battery life also was a SIP
Then the x86 answer to QCOM was Intel Ultra-V in both Lunar and Panther Lake forms ditched upgradable memory and went SIP.
That left AMD alone and its "AI" moniker also went on the same lines. It is now so horrible that Framework, the ultimate Customization king of laptops have to defend as to why its Strix Halo desktop needs to have integrated LPDDR5x. LPDDR5x has high speed as well as power advantages and with Power efficiency being the premium in today's laptops.
Only place where I see upgradable memory would be in corporate windows laptops of DELL and HP that too a specific lines. Any thin and lite design will still be soldered or SIP memory.
Let me tell you that nowadays corporate IT Departments also have started to allow Macs after M2 release. Pre Covid, offically laptops were Windows only with only the level of CEO and CTO having a Mac in addition to Windows laptops. 3 years ago in my company only Senior Directors and above were allowed any Macbook/Pro but now even developers can request the same as long as their Director approves them...So if IT departments do not mind using a closed upgrade path Macbook, there will be very little resistance to Windows counterparts....

Well I think with these ryzen ai chips a lot of them are soldered memory for... reasons... there's guys trying to find a way to make this chip work on desktop platforms and having trouble because of the soldered memory configurations

No number pad on a 16 inch & ~4.18-4.43 pounds 😭 I really wanted my wait to be over. Excellent deal if those 2 aren't important to you. 2 USB C ports with power delivery, next gen processor, excellent screen is difficult to find for a laptop in this price range.

Excellent deal, thanks OP - this would be pretty good at $500, for <$350 I'll take my chances on several and upgrade a few family members
If only it were the 14" form factor with the OLED screen but the same processor (but I'm getting greedy now)

Whats the story on these open box deals that's not a one-off? I mean what are the possible reasons there would be so many?

Is this better than the

NIMO 15.6" IPS FHD N159 Laptop: Ryzen 7 7735HS, 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD, Radeon 680M

I just had this delivered but daughter is younger and wanted a laptop that can basically play some games
