Apple started it long back with its ARM based M1 that got good performance and great battery life with in package memory(SIP) and it then by Qualcomm xElite with reasonable performance and good battery life also was a SIP
Then the x86 answer to QCOM was Intel Ultra-V in both Lunar and Panther Lake forms ditched upgradable memory and went SIP.
That left AMD alone and its "AI" moniker also went on the same lines. It is now so horrible that Framework, the ultimate Customization king of laptops have to defend as to why its Strix Halo desktop needs to have integrated LPDDR5x. LPDDR5x has high speed as well as power advantages and with Power efficiency being the premium in today's laptops.
Only place where I see upgradable memory would be in corporate windows laptops of DELL and HP that too a specific lines. Any thin and lite design will still be soldered or SIP memory.
Let me tell you that nowadays corporate IT Departments also have started to allow Macs after M2 release. Pre Covid, offically laptops were Windows only with only the level of CEO and CTO having a Mac in addition to Windows laptops. 3 years ago in my company only Senior Directors and above were allowed any Macbook/Pro but now even developers can request the same as long as their Director approves them...So if IT departments do not mind using a closed upgrade path Macbook, there will be very little resistance to Windows counterparts....

Depends where you work. Most organizations IT teams added mainstream support for Macbook's 15 years ago. The primary issue I've always seen has been cost, as they are expensive compared to their Dell/HP/Lenovo counterparts and usually required some justification for the capital expense.
I've been using a Macbook Pro at work across 4 organizations in the last 14 years.
Even now Teams in Mac is worse that Teams on Windows 11, and when connecting to projectors for remote sessions, Macs sometimes need our help desk people to get everything working. But, importantly, the last bastion that mandated upgradability earlier which is Corporate America have started moving to Macs greatly.
In my line of work I deal with Cloud Providers, their solution consultants and SMEs and I was totally surprised that every one who did a presentation either in a room or remotely from AWS, ORCL, GCP etc. did it via a Macbook/MBP.
I remember those days when they used to put stick it notes saying they will attempt delivery next day for up to 2 times.
