Amazon.com [amazon.com] has the Intel Core i7-14700K New Gaming Desktop Processor 20 cores (8 P-cores + 12 E-cores) with Integrated Graphics for $259.99. Socket LGA 1700

It doesn't say it but I don't think a heatsink is included with this one.

I might be crazy, but I like this chip. I'm a sim racer and use the same PC for WFH. I undervolt it by 0.1V. Noctua air cooler. Love it.

I've not built a desktop in a long while. What is the concern with this cpu? Thanks.

Intel 13th 14th i7 and i9 (whatever model, with K, KF or without), even i5 (with K or KF), they have instability or blue screen issue. Intel said it was fixed, but who knows. i5 are much better than i7 and i9, you can use a fix voltage in BIOS to almost avoid the issue. Also, intel offers 5 years warranty for all these CPUs with such a issue, and they have a better gaming performance compared with the new Ultra gen. So, it depends, if you already have a Z690 or Z790 motherboard, it might be a good upgrade, if you want to get a new build, I would recommend new Ultra 7 265K, cheaper, better multicore performance and no stability issue.

What do you mean? 13700k is Raptor Lake. 14700k is Raptor Lake refresh. Both chips still have the instability issues and is still unconfirmed to have been mitigated by the BIOS updates alone.I know because I have this exact CPU and I've only mitigated so far by undervolting and limiting the voltage coming in via the IA voltage limit to stop the spikes. This is on top of updating my BIOS to latest as much as I can. Even then this is all in the realm of advanced user / overclocker who knows what they're doing. But it still bears the question, what did you mean refresh of 14700k?

You called him out and explained it very well. Take the win, no need to drag him through his own muck.
After your changes, have you noticed bluescreens or any other issues that might be credited to this?
I have sat on the fence over this cpu for a while at this point. Even peaked at AMD, which seems to be a few steps behind again, (dollar for dollar). It is still on my "watch pricing" list, but the risk/reward thing has urked me. So it's at the bottom.
How has your personal experience been since you made the changes? Any other insight would be greatly appreciated.

You have a good undervolting guide?
