I've never had vinyl ones filled with cement. Some say they can break, others say they toss them around with no issues. I do have a weight stack that is cement filled final and have had some tough drops without any issues though.

If you prefer cast iron, these are $1/lb or less (except for 5/10/15) depending on size. Not the best deal but I rarely see deals on kettle bells.

Im guessing it depends on your level of "abuse". I can't imagine most people are throwing them around but maybe if they hit some failure point and drop them or lose grip. I would imagine a big factor is also if your workout area floor is padded or not.
