yes, so don't get this one, get this style: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C8LZ2...F9kZXRhaWw

You can use any jar and lid as long as it fits. no special lids needed. I've had mine for two years now and have sealed just about everything. It's great for nuts, or when you don't use a full can of vegetables or something. Dump in a mason jar, put a lid on, put the sealer on, wait 40 seconds and pull it off. Add a ring if you want, but I don't.

Are the valve proprietary? Do you have to buy their stuff to keep using this?

I found this on their website. "Can I use regular mason jars with this sealer?Yes, our electric mason jar vacuum sealers are compatible with regular mouth and wide mouth mason jars. Ensure you use proper vacuum seal lids designed for this purpose."

you would just need to find an inner lid with a hole in the middle. or punch one yourself and put a rubber plug in it.

Or buy the other style like I did, that works with all lids, not just mason jars. I re-seal gravy hars, salsa jars, etc. Anything the rubber seal will fit over. They show the other style in their promo picture claiming their version is better. It isn't.

The other style seals the jar, sucks the lid off the jar, then drops it down under vacuum when done. Much better design.

just be aware that these aren't the same thing as canning with heat. it's good for dry things, and will help preserve things longer in the fridge, but it's not shelf stable

I would pass on this, having to use priority lids is a no go unless you plan on using the same 5 lids/jars over and over again and thats it.

Not sure what you mean, off course this is not the same thing as canning, but I use it to create the air tight seal before the jars get dropped into the water instead of the standard hand tightening method.

Yes, any standard lid, can be reused indefinitely. I even figured out how to seal gravy jars and other sauce jars if the mouth is small enough to fit, just set the lid on, don't twist it, just set on, then put the sealer on and seal it, once sealed, you can twist the cap to tighten it. Sometimes a touch of oil or water on the lid beeforehand makes it easier to twist.
