YMMV - Found this on clearance at my local Home Depot in Milwaukee. Seems like a decent deal.

This Ryobi brushless two tool kit stands out as a compact, stronger upgrade for basic home DIY, with the drill and impact driver feeling shorter and more powerful than older models. The 2.0 amp hour batteries fit the kit well, and the set is described as a solid entry into the Ryobi ecosystem. The main caveats are that this is the Gen 1 version, the regular drill lacks the magnetic base for holding screws, and some kits may include older batteries. A practical pick if you want brushless performance without moving up to the newer Gen 2 set.

  • The drill design is slimmer and shorter, which can help with tighter spaces.

  • The kit includes two 2.0Ah batteries for the drill and impact driver.

  • The brushless impact driver and drill can feel more powerful than older non-brushless tools.

  • Aftermarket compatible batteries can be purchased cheaply and used across multiple Ryobi tool kits.

  • The regular drill lacks a magnetic base for carrying loose screws, which can be inconvenient.

  • The Gen 1 kit is older, and a Gen 2 model is already available with an updated drill.

  • Battery warranty coverage can hinge on whether a receipt is available versus the manufacture date from serial numbers.

  • The included 2x2Ah batteries may be older stock, which can reduce expected battery life.

Man, these are way better that my old ones. As mentioned, they don't include the magnetic base on the regular drill, but they definitely have more kick.
These are a present for someone else but I figured I'd check them since they were an open box. A little shorter than my drill and impact driver, so you should be able to fit into tighter spaces. And they sound angry when you fire them up, these are a great introduction to the Ryobi ecosystem for someone.

The specs on gen 1 & 2 are the same according to the discriptions on both pages. Almost the same pics used for each item also
Is brushless worth $30 for the set? My home depot has the brushless drill and impact driver for $129 vs $99 for non brushless? Is it more powerful and uses less battery?

"Is it more powerful and uses less battery?"
Usually yes and yes in general, but if the specs are nearly identical and from the same mfr, there probably isn't going to be much difference.

So for$30 more you can get the gen2 brushless set. The one in this post is for gen1. I end up picking up the gen 2 to future proof with better or stronger performance.

Thanks, OP. I picked one up in Overland Park, KS. There were two more left on the shelf. Note that the $129 brushless set is the compact version. It only has 450 in/lbs of torque compared to the 750 for the drill in this deal. There IS a gen 2 of this kit with an updated drill (PBLDD02 v PBLDD01), priced at $199. It's rated slighter higher at 850 in/lbs.
The biggest issue with this deal is that the 2x 2Ah batteries were probably manufactured 3+ years ago. Lithium batteries age regardless of whether they are used or just sitting on the shelf. So don't expect to get the same life out of them as new. According to the reviews on HDs site, Ryobi does not warranty the batteries from the date of purchase, only from the date of manufacture.

The people on the HD site are probably the disorganized masses who don't keep receipts or don't register anything and then complain.

Ryobi warrants from date of purchase if you have a receipt. Just go register your stuff on their site when you buy it, it's easy.
If you DON'T have a receipt, they only warranty from date of manufacture based on the item serial number. Seems fair to me and I've never had them NOT honor my date of purchase.
FWIW, both batteries in the pack I bought had 2025 era serial numbers. They certainly were not 3 years old.

Thanks. Good to know.
