I really haven't kept up with recent pricing on rods & reels. But I can speak to the value of these reels. The Abu Garcia's that I've purchased still function decades later. All of the Abu Garcia's that my dad purchased 50+ years ago still work perfectly. TBH, I've had to purchase new rods here and there, but I always re-use these reels. The sweet spot for me is the Abu Garcia 5500c, which is good for the type of fishing I typically do (fresh water fish up to about 15 lbs). This 7000 reel is beefier, of the same style, and should last a very long time.
