Finding a Mini 5 for MSRP has been impossible for folks in the United States. 5% with Amazon Prime, frictionless returns, and free shipping makes this slick imo.

Community Reviews

The Mini 5 Pro stands out as a compact upgrade for aerial shooters, with the 1 inch sensor and strong image quality drawing the most excitement. It is also seen as a meaningful step up from the Mini 3 Pro, while the Mini 4 Pro already covers much of the same ground for less. The main concerns are US warranty and service uncertainty, plus customs and availability issues for units shipped from China. Remote ID and sub 250 gram registration rules also look murky depending on battery setup and region, making this a better fit for buyers who can navigate the gray areas.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. The Amazon CC provides an extension of the official warranty and if there is none, well, there's no extension.
Technically, no one ever checks with the manufacturer to see if the product has a warranty or not. Maybe if it's more than 1 year they would check but if Amazon sold it to you *with* a one year warranty (according to Amazon website) then it would be hard for them to go back on that come extension time. Imagine that..."oh, last year you didn't have a real warranty and now that you actually don't have a warranty, you still don't have one." LOL

Look, you cannot officially buy this product in the US. They stopped selling here, and stopped servicing here. DJI drones from China have been held up and turned away at customs. Not even US service, which I think is in Dallas, can get replacement parts and drones.
That is completely false. DJI Authorized Retailers across the nation have the DJI Mini 5 in stock and for sale. The Mini 5 already has an approved FCC signal license. DJI is not yet on the FCC Covered List and won't be until at least the end of December. I spoke about this alongside an authorized retailer on TNL - Ken Heron's show a couple weeks back.

Is DJI Refresh Care able to be added post sale?
No it cannot. I bought a new DJI mini 4K one month ago, and my account did not allow me to buy DJI Refresh Care. You can try using the 2- or 3-year protection plan from Asurion through Amazon as an alternative. I've read mostly good things about that plan.

This is correct but you still won't have to register if you plan to fly recreational only *and* if your drone weights less than 250g.

Thanks for your post. I'd like to keep this ruleset in my back pocket when I fly. If you have link(s) to these rules, please post them. I understand that sub-250 does not require registration if flown recreationally, but I could not find the language that states a sub-250 RID number does not need to be registered. I previously thought that if a drone broadcasts RID, then it must be registered so this is good news.

For me, this one is easy, but it's government regulations so there may be other interpretations. Still, others may have different ideas but the rules for registrations were in place long before RID was available and the rules haven't changed so here we got: https://www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_flyers

8. Have a current FAA registration, mark (PDF) your drones on the outside with the registration number, and carry proof of registration with you when flying.
Note: Beginning September 16, 2023, if your drone requires an FAA registration number it will also be required to broadcast Remote ID information (unless flown within a FRIA). For more information on drone registration, visit How to Register Your Drone.

Who is required to register? https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_s...ster_drone

All drones must be registered, except those that weigh 0.55 pounds or less (less than 250 grams) and are flown under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations.

and

Drones which are required to be registered or are registered, including those flown for recreation, business, or public safety, must comply with Remote ID.

To me, this means when you fly recreational and you chose to register you Mini drone anyway, you need to comply with Remote ID. However, if you chose not to register (because you are not required to) then you are not required to comply with Remote ID. It doesn't say you are prohibited from transmitting Remote ID.

Couple of personal comments: I get it doesn't make sense for drones to transmit RID but there is no record of those details in the FAA database. But I also get the manufacturer shouldn't be able to include RID into a drone to force the flyer to register. The FAA RID DoC is intended for manufacturers (not flyers) so it instructs DJI to proceed with their RID implementation but its existence doesn't order the flyer to register their drone. Those are my opinions.

Thanks very much. Your analysis and opinion are helpful. Legal interpretations can be tricky, especially when the code is silent on specific issues. At the same time, when a rule is silent on a specific issue, one can establish a favorable standing. Do you happen to know what follows when a RID is "seen" by an authority or regulatory agency but is not in the FAA database? And what if that same RID is later registered? In other words, do they keep a list of detected but unregistered RIDs and take actions when that RID is later registered?

I don't know the answer to that question but I would guess the FAA database is a mess since you can pretty much put whatever information in there you wish. They don't verify names and addresses and phone numbers but they do have valid credit card information so that's a start. I don't think you can delete info so it stays in the database forever. If there are 3 registrations for just one serial number, they may have to use dates. However, if there is nothing, I'm sure they can log it for later use. But again, timing is everything so it depends on the situation. Don't forget, we have external modules that can be moved around pretty easily or discarded or replaced. This is exactly why flyers prefer to not register and keep their details out of a messy database. My guess is the vast majority of the RID seen by authorities is not logged in the database.
