"If you already have Windows 11 Home pre-installed on your PC and you want to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro, you should complete 2 simple steps: 1. Install all available updates: • Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot. Next, under Get up and running, select Windows Update > Run the troubleshooter • When the troubleshooter is finished running, restart your device • Next check for new updates. Select Start > Settings > Update & Security >Windows Update > Check for updates, and then install any available updates • Restart your device 2. Change Product (Activation) Key in Settings • Select Start Menu > Settings> Updates and Security > Activation > Change product key"

Fun Fact: If you upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11, your existing Windows 10 key tied to your motherboard works for Windows 11. No need to purchase a new key.

With all the advertising and telemetry baked into Windows 11 this should be free

This is correct. And not just an upgrade, a clean install will pick up the key associated with your motherboard/laptop.

And for those who want to bypass a lot of BS, look into Rufus and Win11debloat. Rufus is a usb utility, and when combined with the windows 11 ISO's you can download for FREE from MS, you can select options like = create a local account (no MS login account) bypass CPU hardware requirements, bypass TPM requirements etc. Using this I installed 11 on a 20 year old laptop that in no way met the requirements (4gb ram, dual core cpu, no tpm, no secureboot) and it worked. I didn't keep it, bc Win 11 on 4gb of ram is a bad idea, but it worked.

After you do your install, get the Debloat tool. https://github.com/Raphire/Win11Debloat

It's literally just a powershell script you run, and it can uninstall/disable all the useless bloat apps and turn off all the telemetry tracking stuff. Copilot, etc. It is very customizable and easy to run. I keep it on my Win 11 systems to run after major updates like the 25H2.

Your don't need this. Download the Windows 11 Pro or any other version for FREE from Microsoft and activate it for FREE using MSSGRAVE.
I think you meant Massgrave, but yeah this is also an option for those with a little skill.

"I'm so sick of my utility company being able to see how much water and electricity I use, I'm going to move into a shack in the woods"
That's a very simplistic and short-sighted perspective. The water company doesn't comb through all of your personal data, from your tax return that you've got stored as a pdf, harvesting your SS#, your income, and your medical tax deduction on your schedule A, nor does your power company get to see the prescription your doctor wrote you for Lipitor for your high cholesterol. Neither of them know anything about your travel plans nor do they know anything about where your kids will be Saturday because they can't see the soccer schedule the league emailed you.

If you're okay being such an open book to corporations and hacks alike so they can monetize your data and sell it whomever wants it, or maybe sell that soccer schedule to the creep in the next town then you go for it. Some people actually prefer to keep their personal information to themselves, for some very good reasons. Clearly my post wasn't applicable to you--feel free to ignore. You know everything there is to know already. It was intended for people who are unaware of how egregious and shameless Microsoft and many other corporations, many of whom have created monopolies or oligopolies for the products & services they provide, have become with regard to taking what isn't theirs--our personal data, and using it for their own gain without any regard to how their actions negatively impact the lives of the data's owner; the individual they stole it from.

I wouldn't say they are all OEM, it's really a mixed bag. I've had no issues with moving a few of my OS drives to a new motherboard that had these cheap keys. Even a Windows 10 key I bought off Ebay for like $1.49 over 8 years ago still works today on another family member's computer, free upgrade to Windows 11. I've only had a couple OS's actually get shut down or get these annoying warnings maybe like 20+ years ago because it was an actual pirated version of Windows 7.
Maybe, but it doesn't sound like you're installing it, just moving a drive, which is different. I had a few programs that I owned legit, like old MS Office suites that eventually balked after reinstalling on even the same machine too many times (a test machine of sorts I was always rebuilding). I've also had legit corporate software that one copy could be used for the whole company, thousands of users with the same key, and those never balked to my knowledge (my understanding, I wasn't involved in that part of it, but just got copies so I could work at home sometimes), which is why the OEM assumption.

Meh, I bought one for my Windows 11 VM that I'm running on Linux KVM. My primary OS use is Linux, but I need Windows for Quicken Classic and TurboTax.

I just got an email from TurboTax saying they will only be supporting Windows 11 going forward. TurboTax probably would have run fine on the Windows 10 VM I have this year, but I decided that for $7, what the heck, I don't want to deal with any possible compatibility issues in the future.

The key I got worked fine.

if you want to be even cheaper you can get a windows 10 key for about $3 and just update to 11 for free. I did this last week when I built my pc.
How/Where to get Windows 10 key ?

The price does not appear to be responding to the code. Nothing happens after entering code and selecting "Update". Anybody else have this problem and find a solution?

I wonder how many backdoors for hackers from India are built into this "lifetime upgrade". 🫤
You mean you think Microsoft built a setting into their global-release flagship software windows11 that if you type in the wrong key to activate software you downloaded from Microsoft that it will also activate Indian hacker backdoor access? I know critical thinking is vanishing, but do you think about what you type before you post it?

The new business model is to give away the OS and resell customer's data. The PC is a cash cow for Microsoft as long as the customer maintains the OS. It's no different than the Android phone business model.

Personally, I would never grant any company the ability to capture data on my computer if the computer stores sensitive personal information. Any open door to data stored in a computer can be exploited. Smart people avoid Edge and Chrome browsers. All devices are sandboxed if connected to the internet. I don't update or run malware protection. Zero infection since 2000.

Microsoft number one priority is to generate profits for shareholders. Most people don't have the knowledge to kill 100% of the spyware stuffs built into W11. The older version of W11 is already out of support in just two years. It's a constant game of cat and mouse to kill the Microsoft spyware.

Older versions of Windows 11, specifically version 21H2 and 22H2 (for Home/Pro editions), are out of support and no longer receive security updates. To get support again, you need to upgrade to a newer version, such as 23H2 or the latest 24H2, using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, while making sure to keep your personal files and apps.

Hahaha I threw Tiny11 on an old-ass Samsung R540 laptop I keep to let people borrow if they need a compooter and while it doesn't run great, it runs well enough for an old person that just wants to check their email. LOL

I then booted up AnduinOS and even just running the live version prior to installing it on the SSD, it runs that perfectly fine. Hmmm.

Use rufus to create a boot drive for win 11, disable pc requirement, disable need for ms account, disable telemmetry. Not that difficult and strips out the garbage to begin with
