According to my purchase history, I bought this exact switch in November 2024 for $16.99. I think this is a pretty normal price, i haven't had any issues with it.

May not be the exact same part #, but a very similar unit is on sale YMMV for $8 at local home depots right now.

Functionally unimportant in my opinion, but you know what they say about opinions.

One benefit of the metal one is you can wall mount it in any direction. The plastic one can only be mounted with ports facing up or down. Metal casing may also help dissipate heat better, but that would likely only matter if you were operating the switch in a garage or attic.

Otherwise I'd agree that they are functionally the same and I'd go with the plastic one if mounting orientation didn't matter and it was going to be used in a temperature controlled room.

Also yes, there are 8 ports, but one of them will be used as an In port while the other 7 are Out ports, so if you need to plug in 8 devices this will not cover your needs
