Because when I used to run in traditional plateless EVA shoes like the Mach 4 and Mach 5. I found them more fatiguing, less efficient, less fun, and less durable than plated PEBA/TPEE shoe models. A shoe like the Mach 6, that has no carbon plate puts significantly more stress on the MTP joint and requires more calf muscle recruitment than a shoe like the Cielo X1. My view is that plated supershoes are more protective and leave my body feeling less beat up after a long run. Regarding the super stack plate less shoes that utilize PEBA, aTPU, and TPEE I have read reports that these models have a clunky feeling to them that relegates them to 'easy run' use cases. So I'm not too keen on shoes like the MagMax. My preference for super stack is the Prime X Strung 3.0, a shoe that fosters an effortless turnover of the feet. I will continue to monitor developments in the industry. Perhaps a company will come up with a plateless super shoe that doesn't exhibit the ponderous inefficient qualities of the current options on the market.

I have the Mach 6, and they're excellent running shoes, but IMO support isn't their strongest suit. Matter of fact, if support is what you need, running shoes in general ain't it.

The Doctors of Running have spilled a fair bit of virtual ink and podcast time on the issues of plates, stack, and drop, and generally seem to interpret the body of research as favoring lesser stack and drop and less use of plated shoes for training. Racing is a different matter, of course.
