I want the Gearwrench 80966 but waiting for a price drop won't happen. Is this worth it?

This looks like a really crappy set. Markings on sockets are not easy to see. Lots of 12 pt fasteners. Stubby wrenches in a few sizes. A trillion smalls that are not frequently used.

I guess if you need a tool set to gather dust in a closet or garage, and maybe break it out once a year it would be OK? I just can't see anyone using this often and not getting frustrated with it.

I have an older Kobalt set similar to this one, and the markings are difficult to see. I only use the sockets as replacements for lost sockets for another brand that I regularly use. I guess that they haven't fixed this on the more recent ones either.

I would wait for black Friday deals to possibly come out on the better quality tool set you want. JMHO

That's thr price I purchased this a couple of years back. The only thing I don't like is the locking mechanism in the front, mine broke right off a month later.

How does this compare to the harbor freight 301 PC set? With that I've been able to do just about everything to a car as far as sockets go. My pitsburg set is about 10 years old and I've only cracked one socket on a lug nut after a decade of abuse

Tools are great, the box isn't. Clips are weak, both mine fell off within a few months. There are side handles so you can still carry but makes it a pain in the a--. & bolts can get stuck, but that seems to be less of an issue the more I use it. When they do get stuck it takes prying and a good deal of strength/force to get it unstuck (larger bolts on bottom shelf). Be warned.

Don't worry - you can wait until Jan 22 as that's when the sale ends 🤣

This feels over priced. There are about $50 in tools here, so you're paying $50 for the box.

Everyone's needs are different, so that's hard to say. Do a little research and find a set that fits your needs. Harbor Freight has some very respectable tools these days. Craftsman sets can be pretty good still. Gear wrench will be higher, but the value may be worth it. Don't rush to buy based only on cheap price if you want to have them for many years. Good luck

Just to add my 2 cents. The case is absolute garbage.

I recommend waiting for the craftsman set to go on sale because that case is 100x better.
